OMG My new TV is Soooo Big and tall!

We see people posting statements when they either go from an 150/1500 to a 250/2500. We also see it when many step up from a 250/2500 to a 350/3500 DRW.

Well seeing how I didn't trade my old TV on the new, I had it for a little side by side comparison

So first from the front, yep the hood is a bit taller, maybe a tic wider feels about the same width.

Now a side view at the front,like I said above I think the hood is just a tad taller, maybe an inch.

Next length and a bit of height, the length looks to be about 18" maybe a bit less. The height is 1" taller for the 2016 based on measurements at the Tailgate.

Yep the new DRW has a sweet set of Hips! Sure is wider than the 2001, but still easily fits in a standard highway lane.

Now rear to rear I see hardly and difference, other than with the 2016 the rear tire looks closer to the rear. That should make towing smoother.

So all in all the new 2016, is just a tad bit larger than our current 2001, the part that really amazed me was the height at the Tailgate is within an INCH of the same height.

I will say the cab feels much larger than the 2001, maybe it is the bucket seats and very nice console between the driver and passenger.
So from now on I will take with a grain of salt statements like "It is just too big to drive in the city" or "It is too big to be a daily driver"

Yes I will be aware of the hips for a bit, but then they will be second nature.

The larger front ends and higher profiles of the HD line-up of trucks is all about packing in enough cooling and emissions equipment for the higher output Diesels. Add air suspension and there is not much room left under the truck.

Russ, I know you have wanted a new truck for a while...and man, you got a NICE new truck!! It's awesome and I'm so proud for you and hope you have tons of fun towing with it. It looks SO good!

That is likely what accounts for the nearly 900# weight difference on the front axle over the 2001!

We turned 28,000 as we got home after a 350 mile trip from the dealer.

DW really likes our current floor plan, if we were to replace the most likely candidate will be an Arctic Fox 29-5K, main difference is about 4,000#. The AF has a GVWR of 16,100#.

Actually that will likely coming out as the head lights work very well. The one thing I didn’t like.

If that's a "Rigid" brand 30" LED light bar it's probable close to a $600 or more light, you could sell it easy if the powder coat is good and no condensation in the lens.

Nice looking truck!! You will love it. I also stepped from a 2001 ram (DRW) to a 2018 ram 3500. Night and day difference in power!

Hard to tell from your photo's, but I would bet you went into a "Crew cab" out of an "extended cab" truck? We purchased a new 2018 Chevy LTZ Duramax extended cab TV late last year. That extra 10" length on a crew cab would have made my truck too long for the garage space I have, (unless I would have demoed a shelf). Plus I just did not want a "Crew Cab" as it would go unused - and backing and parking a bigger beast was unwanted. I test drove the Ram - but it was a lot louder than the new Duramax (being a stated 35% quieter than the 2016 Duramax model year). I don't know how they did it, but at idle, it sounds more like a quiet gas engine than diesel. Rams sure have nice interiors though! Congrats on the nice truck!
P.S. I sold my 2005 Chevy 1500 4x4 extended cab 5.3L with 110K miles for $13K on Craigs list. Try it for yours if your going to sell it. Pretty amazing what people will pay for a used truck these days, especially it its a 4x4! (I replaced all the fogged plastic headlights with new shinny ones, really made it look newer).

I run with the fog lights on all the time. You push the button once and they are always on with the low beams. They fill in the light cutoff line that the low beams have. I really notice this cut of light on a country road that has ups and downs. Chris

The 2001 Laramie also had fog lights, lights on and pulled out to activate fogs, it took a couple times to realize that it is once and done. Just wish I could get the exhaust brake to come on when I started the truck.

Yep, extended to crew, room for dog, and a 3rd passenger as it has the 60/40 split rear seat.
