Black Tank Valve Handle Broken-Tank Full!!!

Help!!

We are full-timers who have always struggled with out black tank valve being hard to close, but recently it bent and we are now unable to find a fix...and the tank is full

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!!!

I had this happen on the KZ Spree we had a few years back (don't get me started on that POS), ended up having to open the belly so I could pull the waste valve open where the cable attached with a pair of pliers. Then I replaced valve and cable with a sturdier assembly.

The handles are pretty much standard but the real fix is down and dirty. That is, replace the valve. The original, it seems on many Keystone products is a LaSalle-Bristol. The better one is a Valterra complete with new cable(s). They are interchangeable if it is just a plate and slider. If it's an entire multi inlet/outlet assembly, it can get complicated with dozens of choices.

This is a project that I'm looking forward to doing on ours - NOT!!

I'm betting just the cable needs replacing. Explain further how you perceive your problem, I'll bet we can fix this in short order.

You may want to rethink. The flanges (the part glued to the pipe) is different.
Bristol requires Bristol replacement
Valterra can use either Valterra or Valterra “BladeX”
Valterra BladeX requires BladeX
BTDT too many times.

I stand corrected by the REAL expert.

My research and one encounter had told me that they were completely interchangeable as long as the correct flange seals were used.

Don’t know that I’m the “expert” but I have done my share and figured it out by trial and error. Errors are not fun on a black tank.

If you have done one, you are an expert on black tanks. My history is one but too far back to remember and with terminal CRS .....

Then I am an expert. 2nd day as a tech I had to do a black valve on a “Simba” class C toyhauler. Black tank was well used with a “volcano” reaching the toilet bowl. What an introduction to the trade.

New techs get the first “used” black valve here.

Thank you, everyone!!! What an ordeal!!! We ended up having to saw into the slider part of the valve and pull it open with pliers. The underbelly of our trailer is covered, making most of the assembly partially hidden. We're at the temporary fix stage...tank emptied, but now comes the replacement. Returning the Valterra...

In the pluming industry there's a thing called a test plug. They come in different sizes. You can insert it into the pipe inflate it and it seals the pipe. You still have to do the dirty work, but it makes the work after, gluing a new valve and making connections easier.

I think I'm less confused now and how I sourced my almost correct info.

~ Valterra fits Valterra

~ Valterra Bladex[ fits " Blade*x™, Valterra, Bristol and Anonda valves" (quote from the Valterra website**)'

...and with that, will plan another under the 5er 'experience' and belly cover removal for late fall/early spring.
