Just bought our new trailer this past weekend. It was a 400 mile pull from Phoenix to Las Vegas, and when we arrived, I noticed that the awning had begun to separate. I will be taking this to the nearest Camping World for the repair under warranty, but is there anything I can do to prevent further separation/damage on the tow to the dealership?

Proper repair is going to require removal of the awning fabric. At this point I would take two long zip ties, and put one at the top of each arm. Since the arms are anchored to the side, and the fabric roll is attached to the arms at each end, the zip ties will keep it all "together". It may take two ties together for enough length, just make sure it goes all the way around the outside of the arms and is tight.

The awning on our 2015 28SGS HC is doing the same thing in the same spot. Not pulled away as far as yours but it is in the same spot. From looking at your photo it appears to be on the left when facing the rig and looking up. I missed mine at PDI and need to take it back. I did notice that if I roll the awing all the way in it pulls it even more away. If I just let it out an inch or so when I store the rig it takes the pressure off the strip some. My guess is that the screws on that side are not hitting a stud or anything. Please let me know what they end up doing to fix it as I will be going down that same road.

Lci power awning

We have a 2015 cougar high country 313rli 5'er and ours is doin the same thing but I noticed that the track mounted to the trailer is lower than the awning drum so when drum gets close to being closed it is pulling hard up on fabric and rail which has stretched out the outside edges of the fabric looks all wrinkled. Other trailers I looked at had the track a little bit higher than the drum. Mine is at dealership now for a couple things under warranty. I will be interested to see what they say or do. Also had to get on roof 2 different trips this year to get awning out. Was on a bind or something.

We'll see...

I pick mine up from the shop this afternoon. I'll post pics of the repair. My neighbor has a 2015 29 RET that is showing the same problem, but not to the extent mine is. I wonder if this is a common problem?

I'm glad they got it repaired for you. Thinking back on "how things were", if I recall correctly, with all our manually operated awnings, the awning rail was mounted higher than the roller tube and the awning fabric was sloped down toward the roller tube. It seems that with the advent of electric awnings, the roller tube is mounted higher than the awning rail which puts the awning fabric sloping up (rather than down). This is probably to keep water from draining into the motor during storage of the awning.

If you look at the awning rail, the mounting screws are in the center of the strip and the fabric slot is at the bottom. So, when the fabric is installed so that it slopes down, the pulling stress would be below the mounting screws and probably wouldn't be as great as if the fabric were being pulled up. That "levering" against the mounting screws may be the reason for so many separations of the awning rail ???

Just my "best guess" but I'm wondering if we'll soon see a "redesigned" awning rail extrusion or if the factory will simply start installing it "upside-down" to prevent the levering pressure from the awning roller being mounted above the rail?

I am totally with you. Def gonna pull up hard on fabric and rail as drum get closer to being closed. I def stated to dealership my thoughts of the leverage it would be putting on it. Even if it was level with drum or as u said being a lil above the drum. All the others I looked at while camping were above the drum. I just think lousey/poor mounting. But easy for them to lay the rail across the top of the awning upright mounted to sides of rig.

WE had an issue with our 2010 KZ Durango 1500.
In our case the front awning arm pulled its anchor bolts out of the wall when we got caught in a micro burst while in Orlando.
When repairing the damage I noticed that the awning was simply bolted to the side skin of the 5er, vs. being anchored in a wall stud as was the rear arm.

Seems today's awnings are for "fair weather use only".
We have since upgraded to a Cougar 327RES,

It would probably surprise you how many awning arms aren't secured to a wall stud. I doubt the engineers consult the designers and agree on a specific awning length and placement of the wall studs. Some awning arms are riveted not screwed to the side wall, only screws are at the top.

Screws at the top rivets down the sides. Dont ask Me how I know this. Those large rivets are hard to find. but you can find them and you get 4 in a box. It helps to have a buddy with a larger than usual rivet gun too.

You can get your own rivet gun for $20 and a container of 100 rivets for $5 at Harbor Freight:

http://www.harborfreight.com/heavy-d...tle-66422.html

http://www.harborfreight.com/100-pie...set-67619.html

This setup comes in handy for a lot more than just the awning arms.

We use the regular hand held rivet gun, and "blind" rivets.

Patio Awning Rail

I'm having the same problem on our 2018 Cougar 22RBSWE TT. The rail is bowing out from the wall between every mounting screw.

We bought it new from Camping World in Mesa, AZ with the extended warranty and they said it was not covered and the repair cost would be $950.00

It's a 16' Solera 12v power awning and I was wondering if the rail is vinyl or some sort of plastic material. Would a aluminum rail work better?

Awning rails are metal. You may be able to move the rail over 1” and resecure it. Another option is to add a screw between the existing ones.

Similar awning pulling away

I posted this another place & will delete that one.

Here's our problem

Our Solera awning ends, like the attached pix of the worst one, are pulling out of the channel.

The only idea we have is raising the arms manually for slack. Then sliding the material to the ends & reinserting them.

Any ideas?

Bent gas strut support arm

As others mentioned, the arm that the gas strut attaches to is bent on our solera awning.

This is in addition to the material coming out on both ends.

This is a 2020 cougar, we've traveled 27k miles in the past 12 months & had no "events"

Any thoughts on what could cause this?
