Interior Cupboard Storage Solutions

Ok so we went from a truck camper to this wonderful 5er. I have so many cupboards now I don't know what to do.

Yes yes I know in a year or two they will all be filled up and I will have no issues other then needing more storage, but the problem I have now is what to do to prevent things from sliding around all over the place in the cupboards.

I have started to place that shelf foam liner down in the drawers and cupboards and hopefully that will help with sliding.

What has others done to help with sliding stuff inside cupboard that are not packed full?

Sometime if you put things in small bins it will help them from moving too much. Also put everything in one cabinet and leave others empty.

As Gary said, we too have many bins that fit within the cupboards, this way we fill just the bins needed and the others support the filled one from sliding around. Yep, we went crazy with bins, but it sure is nice. I even put a pull out/in bin in a couple that were deep.

Add shelves, shelving gap is to big between shelves, it allows thing to tip that shouldn't tip. we did many of our shelves this way. Picture are on our blog, under modification tab.

Both replies so far are exactly what we did. Those huge cupboards leave a lot of unused space so we add shelves between the shelves. Then we added the anti-slip stuff, then we added small plastic containers--one for spices, one for bottles of stuff like Olive Oil... then there were always a couple places we just knew to open the doors slowly when we arrived somewhere because stuff would be askew. Don't worry. You will figure out what works for you in time.

That's what I thought I might have to do is go towards bins.

I did find one website that makes bins and they are made for RV's. Reminds me of tinker toys and the sets that came with the flat plastic pieces, they slide into each other. I didn't think they were unreasonably priced.

Will have to look at the local stores and see what I can find.

we found the shelving material, luan, is way too light to handle too much heavy stuff, like a shelf full of canned goods or pots and pans. Ours, like yours, is a rear kitchen and the stuff really bounces around back there. All our shelves ended up cracking and breaking so I replaced then shelves with 1/4" plywood and then did some other things like others have suggested.

Raingirl, Any product that says it is made for RVs will be priced more than it is worth. Measure your cabinets and go to a "Dollar" type store and find containers or bins that will fit what you need. The no skid liner is a good start but empty cabinets are proof that you don't own enough "STUFF". Don't worry ... soon you will be looking for more storage space like the rest of us, Hank

Poppy, we have the same model and our bottom shelf looks like yours did. I will be stealing your solution.

I did that a couple months ago. I just had to do the same thing with the large upper cabinet in the back corner. Made a template out of brown paper and then cut the 1/4" sanded plywood into the exact shape and then cut it in half to get it into the cabinet. Came out perfect. I didn't cover it with that cheesy wood grain contact paper like I did in the pantry because you can't see it up there.

At least the big one I just did had a false bottom so you can't see the cracks from underneath. Deb was getting the coffee maker out and noticed it.

I'm afraid I will just have to keep doing this to each of the kitchen cabinets. Really, really bad design.

Yeah I will plan to go out and do some measuring this week, then figured the dollar store would be a good place to drop more then a dollar.

I also told the mister to be prepared for shelf bottoms cracking from bouncing. Will eventually pick up a sheet of plywood to cut up when needed.

I really like those slide out bins. Would make it easy to store stuff and not need a flashlight to see what's back in those lower cabinets.

Clear bins will help you see what is in each one. We initially used colored Rubbermaid baskets and we have to pull them out to find stuff.

We have near us what they call the "container store" makes it nice as they have a whole supply of different types of bins. We used some wire bins on tracks for the in/out ones. See threw for others.

Love those slide-out bins. I agree that if it says its for an RV, $$$$$. If you have a Bed, Bath and Beyond, you will be overwhelmed with ideas, and their prices are good. Just be sure you know your measurements before going. We also like the Rubbermaid-type three-drawer storage solutions, especially for the little stuff.

I think, maybe, just maybe it's because the pics are from the tablet but it still doesn't make sense as I double checked the folder and they look fine.
If I'm correct there's another guy here that has the same problem.

I think that explains it. Photos taken and viewed on a tablet or phone will auto-rotate when you view them on the tablet or phone but the file is saved the way the photo is taken. (I think) There should be editing software on your device that will allow you to rotate the photo and re-save it the way you want it to look.
If this sounds like I know what I am doing .... don't believe it ... it's only a guess. Hank
