I live in the northeast and cover mine during the winter months. I once bought a $300 custom rv cover made with tyvek material. It lasted one year, had multiple tears on it from the wind. I then bought a 20' x 40' heavy duty tarp ($130) and have used it for 5 years now. It has held up well. The trick with using a tarp is to tie it down good and tight, which requires some thought and a lot of rope. This works for me. I also have roof vent covers and leave all roof vents open when covered. Have never had moisture or mold issues. This works for me.

I use a tarp too....just on top and a foot down the sides.....helps airflow to avoid condensation build up

Welcome to the forum. As you can see, there is a variety of choices for protecting your new investment. There are covers made specifically for 5th wheels in various lengths. Adco is one popular brand. I too years ago bought a cover for $$ and it turned to powder after 3 years. The issue with the plastic tarps is they don't "breathe" so moisture can be an issue. Another issue is the ropes can rub and chaff the finish if they aren't tight.

I choose not to cover mine, I wash it twice a year at a minimum and keep a good coat of "wax" on it. Nu Finish is popular, it advertises as a "once a year" product, there is a few members that use an aviation product ( I can't remember the name right now). I just this month used a product that claims 5 yrs of protection...we'll see.

I have only kept 1 trailer in the North Country for one Winter and did not cover it. After that first year the DW and I would take it to South Carolina and store it there until March then use it and take it back home. With the 5er we travel September-October and leave it in Florida until we get there for our 3 month stay. Our son on the outherhand covers his with a tarp only on the top it keeps the snow and ice off the roof and prevents Ice damage.

I cover mine with Arizona sunshine. Seems the best way to keep the owner, DW and the 5er happy all winter. You'll love it.
