Jim, that is one beautiful truck! Congrats and hope you have a great time with it. It's nice to know you found such knowledgeable sales folks to help you out. I'm going to run right down and see if I can special order that large V8 diesel from Ram....

Thanks to all! DW was particularly excited to read the posts. It was, after all, her choice of color.
Yes, I can tell you that the turning radius makes a big, big difference. We spent a little time in New Orleans rounding up different food items to take back to friends in Florida: Crawfish etouffe from Mother's on Poydras, and gumbo from Salvo's on Belle Chasse Highway. We also bought a large bag of Louisiana naval oranges, but generally speaking, only the locals are familiar with these. In the time downtown, making U-turn after U-turn it was very nice.
The sticker lists the cargo capacity as 4970. One basically identical in Sebring a few months ago had 5005 and another we looked at had 48-something.
I suppose by the time I get the fuel tank, tool box and Line-x installed and filled with fuel, tools and every kind of miscellaneous crappola it will be about equal to a 1973 Ford Currier.

You'll love it. These things pull like a train! What did you have before? As for the tool box, I don't think you'll have any trouble. I have a similar one and with the long bed there's no issue. Enjoy!

I was curious as well, what did you upgrade from and what factors led you to upgrade?

I moved up from a 97 F350 7.3 Turbo diesel. I really liked that truck but I knew the transmission would be the weak link when I moved up to a bigger RV. It did well with the Gulfstream Sedona but it struggled with the Fusion 405 in the hills so I joined the 6.7 crowd. Very pleased with it and would recommend it for heavy hauling.

In answer to your question about previous TV's we went from F250 to F350 and soon figured out that we just didn't like towing "that far" out of the envelope. Once we bought the Suites we knew that we had to go to a dually. It just took DW awhile to get used to parting with that kind of money again. We discussed every option available and the odds of whether we would use it or not. We dropped the King Ranch option because we simply did not want any moon roofs and electric running boards. Actually the electric running board option is just plain silly, I don't care what your age.
We jumped to the F450 solely for the turning radius because it will be our daily driver. And it is ruby red because if it wasn't then Momma said 'no go.'

That is one gorgeous truck! I love the ruby red too!

And thank you for posting the payload. We are still on the fence for upgrading to a DRW, so that info helps tip the scales a little. Especially since down the road we are looking to an Alpine or something similar.

Congrats on your new truck. I know the feeling of having a TV that can safely tow an TT or 5th wheel.

Just wondering ...

I have a 2017 Ram 3500 Diesel 3500 CC (not MegaCab) 4x4 with the Laramie trim, so our trim levels are generally the same. I just looked at my payload sticker and it shows I can add 5635 of passengers and cargo before I hit my 14000 GVWR. Assuming the Ram 3500 is generally equal to a Ford F350 but the same or lower? GVWR than the F450, I'm curious why your payload is considerably less.

Don, I have wondered the same thing, particularly with the F350 and the options available. I never pay much attention to the 450/4500/5500 series trucks in that most of them are kept at the 14k for licensing reasons. Generally the payload figures aren't discussed much in the 450's and associated vehicles.

So I'm going to make a wild guess and say that if the F350 and the F450 both have a 14000 lb GVWR the reason why your payload is less is because your truck weighs more. When you think about it the F450 has bigger brakes, a wider front axle, and 19 1/2 inch wheels and tires versus 17 inch wheels and tires on an F350. It's pretty easy to believe that the F450 weighs 5 to 600 pounds more than the F350 does. So in other words you're F450 weighs about 9000 lbs empty. But the 4:30 rear axle ratio and beefed up running gear push your max tow and GCVWR higher than the F350.
