Scuff saline tire

Will I need to replace this 14 ply tire . That is the worse of the shallow cuts it looks like I hit a cut off pipe or something low .

I've had a blow out on a trailer before, while on a two lane highway...limping along looking for a place to turn off is not something I want to do again. If you even suspect that the sidewall has been compromised I'd replace it.

OK, I have to ask. Is the damage at the Y of the word "only"? If so, I wouldn't think that is a problem, but, WHAT are the circular things on part of the tire that look like little cuts?? My eyes aren't what they used to be and my quad focals need to be replaced....

I don't know what caused that swarrels it's odd there are no bubbles ONLY the swirl cuts . I would think if there was internal damage it would be showing . I'm thinking it's ok but I may get a new tire and use swirly tire for spare .

No way I'd risk running that tire... If it blows it'll most likely cost a lot more than a replacement tire...

As a note: I drove a little over 400 miles today and saw 3 trailer tire blow outs... the Texas heat is taking it's toll...

On a funny note, I also saw a most rare thing... A Dodge Ram without it's Bullwinkle horns at full extend.....

It's real easy for me to spend your money, so let me justify why I'd spend it:

If it were me, I'd be "forever watching that wheel position"
If it were me, I'd spend too much time checking for anything wrong that I might see.
If it were me, I'd focus on that tire at every stop, possibly at the risk of forgetting something else that's important.
If it were me, I'd worry with every MPH over my "pucker factor".
If it were me, I say "To heck with it and solve my concern by buying another tire. That $150 is far cheaper than the ulcers I'd get from worrying about "what if"...... YMMV

I always thought any cut in a sidewall is a no no. The sidewall constantly flexing as designed to do will cause a cut to weaken, then get deeper and progress to failure. Personally I'd leave it at the tire shop after the new replacment is mounted and balanced.

^^^^Agreed. Have someone make a tight turn with your trailer and watch the tire sidewalls on the inside of the turn as they scuff to make the turn, they are under considerable stress.

The rest of my story...when I had my blowout (2nd post in this thread) I installed my spare, and of course it was out of date, the spare blew out within 25 miles...now I'm in the middle of AZ pulled off in a ranchers driveway/turnout with a flat and no spare. I had to jack the trailer back up, pull the now flat spare, drop the trailer, drive 75 miles to Prescott, buy two new tires, back track 75 miles, put the new tire on, hook the trailer back up and then proceed with my "vacation".

Long story short, $150 worth of prevention (good spare, not one that just "holds air") would have prevented 5 hours of cure!

Nope it's 14 ply saline there no tougher side wall trailer tire on the market no chord showing it will make a good spare .

Replace it

I have blown 2 trailer tires over the last 30 years, and the peace of mind of safety and of trailer damage outweighs the tire cost.

Curb check will do that. Got too close to a curb or other obstruction while moving. Scratched the tire.

Personal decision as the rest stated. I'd run it and not worry about it with a good 14 ply like that. Cheap a$$ tire.......yeah, I'd consider changing.

If you take it to a tire shop to inspect it, they will tell you if the cords aren’t showing, it is fine, and they make money from selling tires. If you are unsure about it, make it your spare.
