Absorption Refrigators

Has anyone stuck a thermometer in the freezer? what are some real world readings? This is not meant to be a complaint thread, so no venting. The Norcold I have, set on 7 out of 9 is in the high teens.

Your readings are in line. We have to use thermometers when testing based on customer concern. Temps in the teens is where we see it when operating as designed.

FWIW fridge should be 32-36 degrees.

I have a Dometic 2862, with a replacement cooling unit from RV Cooling Unit Warehouse installed. Temp in refer is 34, freezer 2 it stays in the range -2 to about +6. We have remote digital thermometer. Fridge set at max.

The freezer in our Norcold 1200 runs around 10 to 15 degrees, measured with a simple mechanical thermometer. Fridge is cold enough to keep beer and sodas very cold.

The Dometic in my 2019 Hideout 21FQWE keeps the freezer around 0, and the refer around 34. I have been running it with ice cubes and freezer pops in freezer and pop, water, and beer in the refer for about 2 months on 110V.
Does it hurt to keep the refer on all the time? Where I live it rarely gets below freezing for more that a couple of days and in the summer 75 is a typical warm day. SW Washington.

Keep the numbers coming in, interesting. So far Dometic is winning the cold war.

I dropped the thermostat to 8, will look at it in the morning, also put a thermometer in the refrigerator.

Get one of these and you will always know your freezer and refrigerator temps:

https://www.amazon.com/AcuRite-00986...8-5&ref=sr_1_5

I have one and I really like it.

Unless RV fridges are built to a lesser standard (and I do not believe they are), it SHOULDN'T hurt to keep them on all the time. The cooling systems are sealed, with no moving mechanical parts...merely a fluid mix that works by turning into a gas and back into a liquid over and over as it flows through the coils. I'm not as familiar with the electronics end of them..so I don't know if the electronics are affected by constant use. Our new Passport has the first "electronic" fridge I've used. Others I've had you just light a gas flame and that's that.

The absorption fridge in our 1977 Mobile Traveler still works fine, and as far as I know, it's original to the coach. And I have two old Servel gas fridges..big units built for homes..that use absorption systems. One was made in 1941, and is currently running off natural gas in one of my outbuildings. It's been "on" there for over ten years except for during defrosting. The other was made in 1947, and we use it at our off-the-grid backcountry place. Though it's only "on" when we are there, mostly. But we have left it on with the food in it when we know we are going to be back out there in a week or two. Both still work like champs after 70+ years.

I have this as well. What sold me on it is the feature that let's you know if the temps rise while your not there.

Lowering the thermostat to 8 really helped, 11 deg in the freezer and 34 in the refrigerator this morning. Thanks to all for your responses, these unites are quite capable of doing the job.

Ambient temps can affect cooling. Check again when the refer side has been in the sun a few hours. Anyway it looks like your good to go.

We have the acurite as well. We have a Norcold and with it set to 4 on a scale of 1 to 5 it stays around 36 in the fridge and around -2 in the freezer when ambient temperatures are low. I have seen the fridge go to 40 and the freezer up to 15 when it is warm and the sun is shining on the back of the fridge. Installing cooling fans in the back of the refrigerator in the spring to compensate for the high temps.
