If I get a 5er . . .

I have used the tow behind Andersen weight distribution hitch. I have had a great experience with the company and that product. The main reason I use it is light weight. That reason leads me to their fifth wheel hitch. . .

I have heard some about the Andersen fifth wheel hitch, but not enough. Are they any other competitors to the Andersen that are lightweight? Is the Andersen enough hitch for a 30ish foot fifth wheel? What reasons would I pick an Andersen over some other brand or vice versa?

I use and love my Andersen Ultimate aluminum hitch on my 40' 5th wheel. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

So, is there no real competition for the Andersen Ultimate? Is there any issue on short beds (6 3/4')?

After seeing the video, I'm glad I ordered the Anderson hitch I'm the king pin set up, after talking with the sale man from Anderson with questions about my 20 inch wide fuel cell. I ordered the newest design for fuel cells . I have 16 inches from center to the fuel cell the standard is 15 inchs the fuel cell hitch stand is 10inches from my tank . I was told the hitch will give me 9 1/2 more clearance from the edge of the trailer and corrnor of the truck .

Actually there is some recent competition for the Andersen hitches from Pullrite:

Pullrite Superlite Series

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery or something like that? As you can see, Pullrite had to change things up slightly probably to keep the Andersen lawyers off their backs. Still love my Andersen hitch but at least now other hitch manufacturers are in the game.

Not sure about the Pullrite it appears to look like an Andersen reversed engineered.
I have the Ultimate Hitch on a 40' Fuzion 345 no problems and hitching is a breeze.
Customer service is second to none. The storage facility where I keep mine damaged the puck and Andersen shipped another free of charge. And the process of removal is sweet. Watch the video's!

I was too cheap to buy the aluminum Andersen hitch and bought the much heavier steel version as it saved me about a $100. Regret not buying the aluminum as I look for excuses NOT to remove the heavy guy for truck bed use when the trailer isn't going to be pulled. The hitch makes hook up a cinch. I( use it in a 6.75' F250 bed and no problems turning the trailer about 90 degrees. Pull of my about 30' 5ver is pretty smooth considering how miserable the ride of my truck. No bucking. I have experimented setting the trailer as low as it will go and as high and high works best for me but your experience may vary. That Pullrite knock off is certainly a clever design... wonder where they got the idea? At least they did put the ball on the 5ver and the receiver on the hitch bwhahahaha

I went in with intentions on buying the Andersen Ultimate hitch but the salesman sold me on the B&W Companion. After removing it from my truck one time, I already hate the guy(and myself).

I had the exact opposite thing happen. Went in with intentions of getting a B&W or other reg hitch and the longtime service person talked me into an Anderson. Only thing is it was a great decision and worked out well.

I appreciate all the info and experiences. I have 2017 F350. I am not sure I understand the sizing of the post. Read that, I don't understand . . . Do you need to have both truck and trailer to decide which post, or just the truck with the gooseneck ball mounted?

I plan to call Andersen tomorrow. I too have been extremely impressed by their customer service and support over the years.

Pullrite make a very similar one called the SuperLite.
I have had the aluminum Andersen Ultimate for 2 years and love it. While doing an addition on my house this summer, I've removed it to take debris to the dump and just love that it is not my old Reese 16K back breaker.

I have the Andersen Ultimate and I am very happy with it. I have the aluminum version and can remove and stow it in my campers passthrough storage compartment. No complaints.

However there is an alternative, the Reese Goose Box. The advantage of this IMHO is that it removes a step in the process. Since it replaces the factory 5th wheel hitch it would not have to be removed from the bed of the truck, like the Andersen. I always remove the Andersen and stow it because I am concerned with someone stealing it, just me. I don't know anyone who has the Reese Goose Box and it is a pricey option.

Happy camping,

I pull my 36 Montana with an Anderson and F250 Super duty. Love the tightness and the fell being solid.

Awesome Hitch!!

I've had mine for two years pulling a 35 ft. Sprinter. Absolutely love it. I do have the aluminum version in my Ram/Cummins 2500. I did already have a gooseneck in my pickup, so..... Also I didn't want the rails still in my bed and B&W was too much $$$ for the gooseneck and then the fifth wheel plate too. I'll always have an Anderson.
