What Is The Difference

I was just entertaining my brain and was wondering, why does 5th wheels get away with not using w/d and anti-sway bars where with bumper trailers it is a necessary item. Just wondering.

Perhaps the short answer is because the pin point sits just forward of the rear axle so it is between the 4 tow vehicle tires with weight distributed "naturally" and there is little, is any, tendency for sway. Bumper pulls need the w/d to get some weight on the front tires and the anti-sway bars to slow down the wagging tail syndrome.

The pivot point of a bumper pull trailer is out in back of the rear bumper, so when it sways one way it pushes the truck in the opposite direction and when it sways back it pushes it back the other way. The pivot point out back gives it leverage.
The pivot point of a 5th wheel is right in the middle of the rear axle so when it sways it exerts very little effect on the truck because it doesn't have much leverage.
