We are new to this thing, any thoughts on carrying a Britta style water picture for camp ground water?

We carried a Brita pitcher until I rigged a 'full house' system. You can always add a 16 buck (Walmart/Amazon) Camco in-line filter that works well too - just remember to chane it occasionally. They are less expensive then the over priced Britas

We are only out a couple of times a year, I don't want to over think or over work it like I do everything else. So, we will use it for morning coffee, and maybe Top Ramen (don't judge) do you believe the Britta is good enough, is the question I think I want to ask?

Worked just fine for us though there is a limited quantity of water produced per filter cartridge. Look at the specs on the Camco and you may decide that they may work better for your needs: https://www.amazon.com/Camco-TastePU.../dp/B0006IX87S

Ramen noodles I recall them in college when penniless after a beery good weekend

I have a ZERO Water filter system. Will that filter regular water or from a creek? I always have a couple cases of bottled water on hand. The ZERO Water system has a better rating than bottled water does too.

Looks to me that these Zero systems will improve taste and filter calcium, metals, etc (TDS). I don't see where they will filter organisms or cysts - so. drink filtered creek water at your own risk. A Camco claims to filter out everything nasty, but ..... My home made setup is a sediment filter followed by a TDS filter that will remove the organisms and cysts as lomg as I use the correct filter cartridge, which I do while traveling. At our 'home' CG, I just use a 5 micron or less final filter as it is processed city water from Lake Champlain

Cool Water quality - really?

OK, first let me admit I take bottled water when we go out. Usually grab a couple of the 1 gallon bottles at the store, and it's primarily for the taste when making coffee and tea.

After saying that, a good friend of my is a 'Water Quality Specialist' by our state to operate the water supply in our town. While I can't say that every state requires a specific water quality, it's probably very good chance that your state or providence does for all public water supplies. What is interesting about these regulation is they mandate the water delivered by the system must meet these standards. Certainly, none of us are surprised by this - I hope?!

The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates bottled drinking water, which is classified as a “food”. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulates tap water. Amazingly, the EPA guidelines for municipal water are stricter than the FDA restrictions for bottled drinking water! You might buy bottled drinking water that is acceptable to the FDA but is not acceptable for use as ordinary bathroom tap water.

Yeah, the water may have a funky taste, and be hard, but it likely meets higher standards than that bottled water you are thinking is the 'safe choice'.

Just to relate a 50 year old experience: When we owned our Airstream, we went on a Wally Byam Caravan to Mexico. Our trailers were on flatbed rail cars and we were in passenger "club cars" at the front of the train. Every evening the train would stop in a different area, we'd all go to our trailers and "camp" for the evening. Water was "suspect" in Mexico at that time and we were all "assured by the tour directors" that our Everpure water filters were sufficient to protect us from the questionable water. Well, one evening we stopped at a rail yard, we all went into town for supper, came back to find all our fresh water tanks had been topped off by the service crew. The next day there simply weren't enough toilets on the train to accommodate the demand.

Montezuma's Revenge has a way of catching up with even the most careful people who rely on filters to fix bad water.... If I were you, I wouldn't trust, Brita, Zero, Everpure or any other filter system. If you "must" then boil the water, let it cool, then filter it. Otherwise, bottled water.... Remember, there's only one toilet in most trailers

To answer the question - probably. But it begs the question...why? The expense, limitations and trouble of a Britta aren't worth it to me. I've tried 3 of them and they just didn't make me (us) happy. Get a water filter for the trailer (about $17 at Walmart), screw it onto the hose( about 15 seconds) every time you hook the water hose up and you have filtered water.....right now. No extra filters, no waiting etc. Or, do as we do; I use the filters AND carry bottled water...just because

I travel full. The added weight makes the trailer ride better and I have concerns about sloshing with a partially full tank

If your trailer cargo load is such that the trailer is appropriately loaded, not overweight and cargo is balanced, then you "shouldn't have any problems".... That said, it's possible to load a trailer "to the GVW" with personal items, then add 43 gallons of water in the FW tank, have "half full black/gray" tanks and wind up being nearly 1000 pounds overweight....

So, within reason, you should be OK, but watch your other cargo to make sure you're trailer isn't overweight and that you maintain the 10-15% tongue weight to total weight ratio.

We never use what is in the tank for anything but washing and flushing and I keep some in it for use on the road. Same thing if camping with water hookups.

Cooking, coffee, drinking, etc comes from 2.5 gallon jugs or individual bottles.

If we are going to be dry camping, which is the norm for us, I will pull into a FH campground and fill up. Most of them will allow you to pay for a fill up and dump and I drop back in and dump on my way out.

We carry 1/3 full tank, for bathroom breaks along the way. I don't want to carry the extra weight of a full tank. I have enough load in the 5th wheel, and the extra weight can't help fuel mileage.
I agree with Canonman. I always use a filter at the beginning of the hose. I also open the water spigot before connecting, to get rid of as much rust as I can, to extend filter live.

Maybe we should have a filter? I fill up at home where I know the water tastes good and add as needed on the road. We usually get a full hookup so generally bring a little of our water back home. I would hate to run dry, my wife needs more frequent restroom stops and it's nice to have our "rest stop" right behind the truck. The only time we used bottled water was when we were in 15-20 deg. temps and I blew the lines and winterized on the road. My 10 year old plastic tank seems to be OK, haven't seen cracks or obvious damage.

Interesting thread. I carry a 25 gal. Plastic barrel in my truck and have a 12v whizzer pump with an old battery, so always have 10-20 gal there, plus I keep maybe 15 gal in the trailer tank. Never have I drank water from the trailer tank, nor used it for cooking. We bring a good supply from home then just buy jugs as we go along.

I left the last campsite with my water pump running, (forgot to turn it off) didn't realize that my fresh water tank was empty. got to the new camp ground and heard this low rumble noise. It was my water pump still running on an empty tank. Put water in the tank and the sound didn't make the normal rumble but a low steady noise, sounded like it could build pressure to me. So, am I right in thinking I burned out the impeller ? Should I replace the pump or just the impeller or what ? Any better pumps out there other that the original factory pump????

Test out the theory that carrying water or not will change MPGs, I have found it does not make a noticeable difference. Towing speeds is what changes mpg. As long as you don't include wind or hills only one direction.
