Which side should the tag be on?

On my 2005 29rls the tag is located on the curbside tailight. I always thought that the correct location was on the driver side - as was the convention back in the days of having only one tailight. Is there any logic to this placement - or was mine simply installed wrong by a new worker from England?

Another possibility is the DS bracket broke. Mine did and you have to buy the complete taillight assembly, They aren’t expensive.

Our license plate is also on the curbside on our 2014 Cougar xlite. I assume they couldn’t put it on the drivers side since the ladder is there.

You should check with your state laws, now days through the web. I can say with certain that Oregon does not care and is silent on that. It says placed on the rear and lit at night.

——but the driver side tailight doesn’t have a clear lenses for the tag light. In any event it looks like the factory set it up that way. With respect to the roof ladder placement, my previous Winnebago motorhome had the ladder on the curbside and the tag was on the driver side. Maybe this is a Keystone thing???

There are simply no state laws to determine which side the tags are placed. Ours are also in the middle.
On edit: I guess the red states it goes on the right.....?

By the way mine is on the left, I should change it to the far right.

Mine is on the curbside as my outside shower is below the taillight on the drivers side.

CA Law

My Raptor toy hauler is also mounted in the center. i couldn't find any state laws regarding left/right side mounting, just details on the height.
CA vehicle code:
5201.
(a) License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging, shall be mounted in a position so as to be clearly visible, and so that the characters are upright and display from left to right, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground...

Police Officers do not care and all I was ever taught was one question? Can your tag be read clearly and unobstructed. Traveling at night and not having a tag light is a minor violation here and is probably cause for a traffic stop, a ticket and other violations found during the traffic stop. Most officer that I have worked with , will just remind you and tell you to fix it if no other violations are found.
