Box height F-350

Could I ask a favor of someone with a 2019 F-350 DRW? Or I think a 2018 is the same? Calling tomorrow to order the new truck (ouch!) but I am concerned with bed height versus our truck right now.

If someone has time, could they please measure the height of the box from the ground to the top of the rails, and then the top of the rails to the bed of the box? I would greatly appreciate it! There is not a DRW within 100 miles of us according to the Ford website or I would go do it myself.

Thank you!

I know for a fact that the 2017+ trucks are taller than your 2016 but by how much I am not sure. I will dig and see if I can find some "published" numbers for ya to possibly work with. The dealer here in town has a good selection sitting around so if I get a chance I can swing by tomorrow and measure one up.
From the 2016 Ford trailer towing guide tailgate clearance a SRW F350 at 59" to 60" is taller than a DRW F350 at 56" to 57". I imagnine the new SRW trucks still sit higher than the new DRW trucks

Here is the most recent Trailer towing guide page 26 gives the tailgate clearance https://www.fleet.ford.com/resources...e_r4_Jan29.pdf
Not sure if this link will work just copied and pasted.

You will find that the TG on DRW will be lower than its SRW. Our 2016 Ram 3500 DRW is only about 1” taller than our 2001 Ram 2500.

Mike,

Thank you very much for this! I had not noticed the tailgate heights the last time I went looking through the towing guide a few months ago. I have hope now that I don’t have to worry about a too tall truck for the camper. At least I hope so! Although, I had to laugh at Ford’s 59”-60” for the 2016 SRW. Ours measures 57.25” to top of tailgate from the concrete floor in the garage - without the fifth wheel hitch in. I think they were very optimistic about that measurement.

Thank You! I appreciate it!

I think they were measuring the possibly the tallest ones that would also be the lightest base curb weight.Think bare bones XL with a gas motor or Platinum with 20" wheels. I was very worried about cab height when I ordered ours, our garage door opening is 7ft. My cousin has a Platinum Gas with 20" wheels and clearance lights it does not fit, mine is a diesel like your current one with no clearance lights and 18 inch wheels, 11,500 GVW it fits with the sun roof tilted open.
Just for giggles I have 300# of accesseories (bed cover, running boards) and 500# of balast over the rear wheels for winter traction, the tailgate measures 57 3/4 inches from the garage floor.

Our poor truck should have little man syndrome then. It’s a Lariat with an electric roll up bedcover, running boards on the box and the cab, and the B&W turnover ball. No sand for winter weight, no sunroof, no hitch in right now. And it’s still shorter than yours (I even measured with a level on the tailgate).

A 7’ garage door would have given me a heart attack the first time, measuring height first or not! Now, I’m just hoping Ford’s book is correct that the DRW is 96” wide and no wider. Our garage door width is 106.75”. And my truck will not park outside!

Well good luck I think ordering a vehicle is the way to go especially spending the kind of money that it takes to get one. I ordered mine the day after Thanksgiving got it FEB 12 actual production was the first week in January so it took a little over a month to get to Alaska. Should not take as long to get to you in Minnesota

Lynette, it will be light shortly and I'll send you the height from an F450. It will give you another perspective anyway. We ordered ours on November 26th and it arrived at the dealership in Collierville, Tennessee on January 25th.
The only option I would say you simply cannot leave out is the tailgate step and helper rod. Believe me, it is handy as a pocket watch!
We're all excited for you....
On edit: The height is exactly 59".

Thank you too, Jim! I was getting visions of the truck too tall for camper, and I really don’t want to modify the camper to fit a taller truck. But you, Mike, and Russ have given me hope that everything will be just fine as is.

The tailgate step is a definite must. I really liked that in our 2009 F-350 and our current 2016, and am more excited now that the redesign has a flat, sprayed bed liner tailgate with the handle hidden in the tailgate itself instead of laying across the plastic bumped tailgate cover. Our progression of trucks has been interesting. The new one will be the same truck as our 2016 just with 2 more tires, which was ordered to match the 2009 just with the new engine to get the B-20 fuel ability. Only bummer is this time I cannot delete the clearance lights on the roof, and boy, I tried for that.

How is the new truck? Easy to live with?

I had a 2016 platinum srw F350, now I have a 2018 F350 srw Lariat with the ultimate package. The 2018 is higher than the 2016. One thing to consider is the 2018 has a deeper box therefore losing a little bit up clearance between the truck and the fifth wheel. I had to raise my hitch to the next Notch higher
