Audio through Jensen surround system

2014 Montana 318RE. I have added a Western Digital media player into the unit with an HDMI cable running to the TV. All good I can play movies with sound through the TV speakers.
I added an RCI analog audio cable (red/white) from the audio output on the TV back to the aux input on the Jensen.

If I set the Jensen to aux input I can hear the audio of TV channels through the surround sound ion the trailer but when I play a movie from my media player, I get no sound through the Jensen.

Is this because I am supplying audio via HDMI (digital) to the TV and using RCI cables (analog) back to the Jensen?

Any solutions to allow me to make this work? Thanks.

I have my Westinghouse LED tv set up the same way. Audio out from the TV to the Jensen aux audio jacks in back of the Jensen.
My thought is that your TV may have an audio setting to push sound out through the jack rather than the built in speakers. I think it has something to do with HDMI. There are different HDMI levels or versions.
Check your TV manual.

Some lower end electronics that have hdmi do not have the ability to pass audio through them. You usually see it in the entry level audio receivers for surround sound where the hdmi comes from the player to the receiver and then one out to the tv. The receiver will play it through the surround sound but the tv will not.

Pretty much your tv is acting like the receiver, everything is going in but audio wont pass out.

Does your Jensen have 2 aux inputs? If so, connect the analog audio out from your Western Digital to the Jensen aux 2 in.

Check your TV manual. I have run across default settings on other TVs that had the audio out jacks turned off. I will check my manual, also. We probably have the same TVs, since I have a 318RE also.
