Southern Trip Report
We are driving home from a four-week trip from Myrtle Beach to Florida and back. This forum was so helpful in our planning, so I am paying you back with a report.
We began at Ocean Lakes Myrtle Beach because we store our tt (Cougar 26rbs) there for the winter, and happened to be there for New Year's Eve; amazing fireworks right by us. We love this campground, and admire how friendly and efficient they are in such a huge operation. We met a few others who had the same plan as we did, so it was great to compare notes.
Second stop was Beverly Beach Campground. I was hooked by a photo from there that was posted on this forum last spring. We loved the Flagler Beach area. The campground was tight, but the location!!!!!
Next we camped at C.B. Smith Park in Broward County so that we could visit friends in Fort Lauderdale. It was a surprisingly nice county park, with full hookups, but not ideally located for us. A 10-mile trip to our friends' took us 45 minutes.
Boyd's in Stock Island near Key West was next; we stayed here the longest, 10 days, and enjoyed it the most. This park has a plethora of activities, from water aerobics to line dancing to potluck dinners to crafts to golf to kayaking. I believe some guests rarely left the park. I'd heard it was noisy, but the only noise came from the early morning jets and roosters. (We're early risers anyway). We went into KW every day, usually to Fort Zachary Taylor State Park.
Next was Red Coconut in Fort Myers Beach. How tight you ask? Well, we had to be positioned in our site by their tractor. But the location! Right on a beautiful beach, and near many good restaurants and shopping.
Our last Florida stop was at Sarasota Sunny South. This park was in a residential neighborhood but near Siesta Key and many other beaches and parks. Many guests were either full time or all season, and they were very friendly. Our neighbors on both sides greeted us as we arrived. The manager, Mary Anna and her husband were very friendly and helpful and take much pride in the park being immaculate and beautiful. The pool area was lined with a beautiful mural painted on the fence. We were delighted to find a very nice exercise room.
We're now heading home and talking about next year.....thanks for your help.
