Storing greasey tension bars.

My weight distribution hitch says grease daily. No problem, but when we are traveling on unhooking almost daily are there any suggestions on where to store the bars without getting grease on everything.
Thanks Greg

I store mine in a tool box mounted to the front A frame of the hitch. It holds all of my hitch parts and keeps them out of the weather.

Kept the original box and stored them in there. Also get some work gloves to handle everything and keep them in there too

I've been thinking about a hard rifle case, like this.

Its a Plano 10470 gun case, ad its about $15 at academy sports.

In the Jayco I had, I hung two pieces of PVC from the roof of the pass-through. it worked great, but the access doors on my Outback are too small for me to get in to hang them again. I'm still looking for a way to store them without making a greasy mess. I don't want any kind of storage system that leaves them open and available for theft.

Do you have a picture of this? I'm curious to see where you got a tool box to fit.

You guys came up with some good ideas, I used some extra plywood and 2x2s, buildt a square box open at one end and placed them along with the sway bar in it, in the front storeage lying on the floor.

I will try to get one today if it stops raining. Its a truck bed side box. It holds the battery and hitch and misc. other spare parts and supplies.

I attached two pieces of PVC pipe under my trailer tongue and just slide them up in the tube once I unhook.

I went even simpler than this but same idea: I just took some coat hanger wire and made a loop that hung on the side portion of the tongues. Slip the bars into the wire hoop and rest the other end on the L bracket. Doesn't get grease on anything else.

That's exactly where I keep mine. We had a bunch of extra n left over hard cases originally for AR 15s so I kept a couple. I keep them in the case at home in garage and when camping I just lay them across the A frame and padlock them. The PVC soundslike a mod I may do as well. Improvise!!!

Pretty much my theory as well. The diameter of the PVC is just large enough for the straight portion of the bar with the chain attached. The angled end just hangs outside, thus getting grease on nothing.

Old post I know, but have been away for a while and browsing.

I screwed some light chain to the aluminum frame on the top of my pass thru storage and slide the bars in that, the key to keeping everything clean though is I have some old, small canvas bags with drawstrings and they fit just right over the greased ends. Some kind of rubber or vinyl sleeve or sock would work the same.

I just put an old pair of socks over the greasy part. The bend for the heel is just right, and there is always a ready supply of them at our house.

I used a 3' section of plastic downspout with 2 matching brackets screwed to the metal framing in the front storage area. I put a screw into the downspout at bracket locations, so it does not slide around when storing arms. You will need to position downspout so the arms can be inserted without interferring with outside door. You will need a helper on this one, and be flexable to crawl inside for the mounting. I am using the Equalizer, which does not have any chains.
