Water pump issue on 2012 Sprinter 255rks

2012 Keystone Sprinter 255RKS

Hey all, new member here and looking to learn from some of you experts. Thanks in advance!!

My wife and I just bought a keystone sprinter and used it this season for the first time. The water pump has been giving us some problems though. Originally it worked as designed but then it started to stay on after the water pressure was reached. It goes into a low hum like it’s still trying to push water. If I tap the toilet flusher tho, it stops. It does not seem to be a leak bc I can get it to stop. On the most recent trip the water pump actually stopped pumping though while we were using the sink/shower and then it would start back up on its own within 20-30 seconds. It has become very unreliable.

So, I definitely think it is a faulty water pump. Maybe the internal pressure sensor is messed up… maybe the prior owner got gunk or something in it. The sensor having an issue would explain most of the symptoms I am experiencing but I am no expert on these things. I plan to get in there and replace the water pump next year but does anyone know what caused this or any other solutions I should be looking at?

Welcome to the forum. I’m not sure what might have caused your pump issues but replacing them is pretty easy. Enjoy your rig. Have fun.

We have the shurflo pump in our trailer so I can only speak to that, but the shurflo pump is a very simple device. There are no critical parts or things that go "boing" if you disassemble it. With ours, the plumbing is attached to the pump with screw on fittings (like garden hose fittings) so it is easy to get the pump out of it's hidey-hole. There are six screws that hold the pumping part onto the motor part. Those screws also hold the two halves of the pumping part together. In the pumping part there is a switch that is activated by a spring loaded plunger and this is the switch that starts/stops the pump. It might be a simple issue of some calcium buildup or foreign matter restricting the movement of the switch plunger. Don't be afraid to disssemble the pump and check it out yourself. It's simple, there's no high voltage or high pressure around it and if you find that the pump diaphragm is worn out, the worst that can happen is you are up for a new pump. Doing it yourself will save a LOT in repair labor bills and you'll learn a lot about your system.
Edit: Also you don't need any specialised tools to disassemble the pump, just a philips screwdriver.

Thank you everyone! I’m definitely up for opening up and possibly replacing a pump on my own to save a few bucks. Thankfully they do not look very expensive. I’ll probably wait until the spring so I can properly test out any repairs I do thought. Thanks again!

So I definitely need to replace my water pump in the spring. I tried doing searches for some advice but couldnt find any. Here is my exact pump linked below but it seems almost too cheap and a good percentage complain that it fails too easily. Can I replace this pump with any pump? And does anyone have a good recommendation of a solid pump that will be very reliable? I’d rather spend a few more dollars to know I have a quiet, solid pump.
