Shower hose retainer

What is the purpose of this retainer that limits the amount of hose that you can use when showering and especially when cleaning the shower? I’m thinking about cutting it open on one side so it can come out when needed.

Caution needed!! If you remove that ring your slide will fall out.

I always thought that it would prevent the shower head from hitting the shower floor pan if it wiggled out of the holder while traveling. I have always rerouted the hose outside the retainer so that the shower was easier to use. That being said, on one trip the shower head popped out of its holder and hit the shower floor - the impact sheared the shower head off at the fitting. Now, I make sure that I lay the shower head on the floor prior to pulling out of a campground.

More importantly why did they install the shower head backwards? Take the retainer off and plug the holes. Either take it down before travel or use a Velcro strap to secure it.

That makes sense. I'm going to cut an opening on one side so that it can still be used for that purpose, and if it becomes a problem replacements are $2-3. The "official" part name is "Shower Hose Guide." Too bad they don't make them with a little swivel closure. I might also consider a short bungee for the shower head when on the highway.
