My 2010 F150 5.4L truck didn't have a transmission dipstick. There was no "user friendly" way to check transmission fluid level. Any transmission maintenance needed to be done at the dealership. I suppose one could drain the transmission fluid, measure how much was removed and install that amount and "make a guess that it was the correct level".... But......
So, in response to the comment: "The day that's done on pick-ups will be a sad day indeed." That day was, at least with Ford's F150 transmission, about 7 years ago......

It's no "surprise" to me that you found the procedure in the Ford Shop Manual. I found it in 2010, about a week after I bought the truck and was doing a fluid check in the driveway and realized there's no way to check transmission fluid level without either having a vehicle lift or a creeper to get under the truck. Gone (at least on that model) was the "conventional transmission dipstick" and any way to check transmission fluid at a routine fuel stop. I might add, "also gone" is the means to pull the dipstick out, see, touch and smell the transmission fluid to check whether it's burned, overheated or off color (without that lift or creeper)..... In my opinion, on the 2010 F150 5.4l engine/6 speed transmission, the "user friendly" transmission fluid checks are no longer "user friendly". That model is, for all practical purposes, a "sealed unit" with no capability for "owner checks/maintenance" without special tools and equipment......

The term "sealed" transmission was mentioned. And there are true sealed unit's out there. This is not one of them.

Hey guys,
I apologize for not being on sooner regarding this thread. Since I asked the question, we have not towed the camper as our weekends became filled with other activities. Now she has been winterized and is ready for a long winter slumber.
Since that last towing experience there has been no issues with the truck so I will have to wait until Spring and see how it goes at that point.
In some respects I wonder if I am not "expecting too much", meaning I know the truck will not speed up the hills like it will with out the trailer but the truck just seems to bog down which is guess is to be expected with the weight of the trailer.
Firewall:it's nice to "find" someone else with the same trailer.

And truck, LOL! We towed a lot this season, no issues, no power problems. Hopefully next season will be good to you!

The only time I would downshift manually would be if the tranny would be searching or shifting up and down for a gear, otherwise it stays in T/H mode and cruise on.

It is sad. It is easier to work on my semi truck than it is my 3/4 ton pickup. Heck, just the basic stuff like checking oil is easier on my semi truck than my pickup.
Oh, I have the same truck, 2015 2500 6.0, but not the same trailer. I like smaller and lighter for dispersed camping. Could be just the commercial semi driver in me, but I tend to use manual mode more frequently than D or Tow Haul. Cuts down on a lot of gear hunting by the trans especially on smaller rural roads. And for slowing down, I can drop gears earlier to get maximum effect to assist in braking.

Hey Firewall, I have a question for u regarding the 32FBS trailer we both own. Do you happen to know where the heater bypass valve is located? When it is time to dewinterize, I would like to do it myself since it is usually a matter of flishing the lines. But since I don't know where the valve is located I usually pay to have it dewinterize.

It's under the pantry closet. There is an access panel screwed in with two screws. Remove that and you'll see the valves!
