Lion Safari UT battery, great specs but still expensive
Anyone sprung $799 to $999 for that battery. Seems to be making inroads into the RV market. A few reviews are popping online.
Lithium-Ion Phosphate, lifetime warranty. 100 AH, 20 lbs. Group 24 size.
I'm sure price will eventually come down.
Just curious.

Unless you are installing a complete solar system with the appropriate charging system, you will need a different converter in your rig to maintain this battery. Even without the solar, the converters that come in these RV's need to be replaced if installing lithium batteries.

At this time, the benefit of Li-On batteries just doesn't justify the expense for most people. At $1000 per battery and $350 for a new converter/charger, you're talking $2500 by the time you pay sales tax and shipping charges. The actual "number of dry camping days" available with that system is equal to the number of days you'd get with four GC2 golf cart batteries at a cost of around $400. Granted, there's the weight factor and the requirement to check electrolyte levels, but for $2100, most people would opt for a 2 or 4 GC2 system and buy new batteries in 5 or 6 years over paying $2500 for a "8 year lifespan Li-On system".
Once pricing becomes "earthbound" I'd suspect that "public acceptance" would change significantly. Right now, for most people, it's "out of this world expensive".....

Agreed.
The future looks bright for RV batteries. I am looking forward to light, powerful, reasonably priced ones.

When the pricing is competitive with FLA batteries I'll get excited. Until then, at least for me, the price of upgrading the entire 12VDC battery/charger system makes it cost prohibitive. When I can buy the charger for $150 or so and the batteries for $150-200 each, then it'll be something to consider. Until then, I'll have to "lug my seventy pound batteries to the garage every winter and lug them back to the pole barn in the spring".....

I will be buying new GC2s from Costco again this year, my old ones have lasted 8 years.
I don't lug them anymore... I'm a snowbird and spend my winters in Texas...
