Lube plate on hitch

Anyone here use a lube plate for their hitch? I was wondering if not, how much grease do you need to put on the plate? So much to learn, so little time...…..

Use a lube plate. Last forever and cheaper/cleaner than grease. Just dab a little grease on the jaws and pin.

I agree. Get a lube plate. I have over 4,000 miles on mine and still going strong. I keep a spare lube plate in the 5er just in case something really weird happens but don’t expect to use it for a long time. Happy Camping.

No grease with the lube plate. Plate is made to keep from using grease. They work GREAT!

why don't the sales folks tell you about this stuff? So much they can do to help but don't bother. I don't understand that kind of omission.

During our PDI walkthru at the dealer, the guy doing it told us we should have a lube plate to so we didn't have the grease all over. He then proceeded to walk outside, grabbed a lube plate off used fiver, and put it on our new fiver. Been using one ever since owning a fifthwheel. I did buy a new one for our newest RV, figured I just spent all this money $10 more was a drop in the bucket.

BTW, he did say we need to use grease on the pin and hitch jaws.

Yupper....get a lube plate for sure! I had a white one for years, and just for grins and giggles, purchased a black one.... like the black one better!

It's not omission if you don't know. I'd venture to guess 90%+/- of rv salespeople have NEVER spent one night in a rv & for sure have NEVER towed one. They will info/advise you on lots of stuff, just don't believe all of it as fact. You know the saying "if their lips are moving!".
Also a huge YOU BETCHA! on the lube plate.

My $.15 on using a lube plate. I occasionally spray some silicone on it but even that isn't required. Ours was new last year after an off camber hookup but even that one was repaired and is held as a spare. A second benefit is that they take up some hitch to pin box slop (~3/16") and cushion against potential clunking.

I had the same question last year when I pulled our 5er home from the stealership.
The good folks on this forum said "go for it" and so, I did.
Great invention. wouldn't be without one.
Just be sure to still lube the Zerks on your hitch and spray areas where the paint wears off with a bit of white Lithium grease.

I remember my first 5er we bought used from a private party. We had no idea what we were doing (at the time) and I didn't know what that "white, record looking thing was" so I just kept adding grease to it ever so often. It wasn't until a fellow camper asked me why I had so much grease on my lube plate that I realized....oh...that's what that thing is?!

I think the white ones are just teflon. The grey/black ones are impregnated with graphite so are more of a "lube plate".

That is correct. I still use the white on, for about half price. I change it out every year. $11 isn't going to place harm on the budget.

Good to know! I'll make sure to pick one up when I take delivery of our new baby this weekend!

Last year, shortly after we got our trailer and hitch (Pullrite Super 5th non-slider) I was talking to Pullrite customer service about something else, and happened to ask about lube plates. I was told they recommend against using them, but she couldn't tell me why. I've always wondered what the reasoning could be...

Same thing with Reese R20. Was advised not to use a lube plate by Cequent engineer in Australia. The hitch already has some type of plastic (?) cover & they supplied a container of lithium grease to use on it. Very messy & have to cover with plastic sheet & cover to keep dust out. Have thought of removing plastic cover & using lube plate.

at least that sort of makes sense since yours came with something similar as part of its design, my Pullrite is just painted metal, I can't see how a lube plate wouldn't work on it....
