Keys for Cougar Fifth Wheel

I'm hoping someone here can help me because I'm not sure what else to do. I recently purchased a fifth wheel from Camping World. When I got it home, I had issues with the door latch (door wouldn't open) and needed a locksmith to come to my house. Needless to say, I broke one of my keys. It was a hassle getting in touch with someone at Camping World let alone get a replacement key. I finally got someone to send me a blank key (they charged me for it) and when I took it to a locksmith he didn't think it was the right key <ugh>. Probably the wrong call, but I told him to cut it anyway and maybe it would work. It's worth mentioning Camping World is 2+ hours away from me. Well, it didn't work. I'm not sure how much of a hassle they are going to give me and quite frankly I'm tired of dealing with them. Does anyone know who makes Cougar's keys? It's not Lippert Components and when I called Keystone they told me I'd have to deal with Camping World. I just want to get a spare key...

Your locksets are probably made by Fastec. The keys are numbered HF 301 through HF351. You can order replacement keys from the manufacturer at this website: http://www.fastecindustrial.com/products/hf300.html

Is there a another dealer close that sells cougar? If you can get the key number off the lock you might be able buy some from them. When I was picking up my Passport and doing the PDI I made the mistake of testing all 4 keys in the front door lock. How was I supposed to know the two doors were not keyed the same. The key turned but never turned back and it ended up being stuck in the lock. They ended up replacing the lock. The PDI tech was not happy. Good luck.

Seriously, Camping World - that kind of service is ridiculous.

As JRTJH says, they're probably super generic. The key probably has a number on the base - all you need is that number.

I ended up wanting to re-key the front and rear doors to match, as well as re-key all of the baggage compartments. Ousr started with a "G" code and door latches still had a logo to the website below. (Made by Global Link?)

You can't get the tool to replace the cylinders unless you're a locksmith or use the dealer - so it was a lot less expensive for me just to buy one new latch and several baggage locks. When you buy them, you get to specify what key code:

Keys: http://www.rvlocksandmore.com/Global...s#.VwMVwXqbV6Q
Baggage latches /keys: http://www.rvlocksandmore.com/Global.../CH-751-CK-330

Nope, not Fastec :-(. Only has a three digit number, no letters.

There are two RV dealers nearby. One doesn't sell Keystone and the other does. I can try them both, maybe they'll have a blank key. Ugh, this is becoming such a nightmare.

Maybe a Bauer key? Oblong head. Not common, so getting a replacement may be a bit of a chore.

Trimark also makes door locks, round head but IIRC 4 digits for the cut.

It looks like a Fastec key, same color and shape, but it only has a three digit number.

If I remove the door latch will I see the manufacturer name?

For about $30, buy a whole new latch handle. On mine, the entry door has a different key than the outside storage doors.

I can't say for certain that I have seen brand names on the lock set. I know there should be a sticker with the key code.

That's always an option. And knowing that the fastec and Bauer locks are easy to open with a common pass key, you might want to consider the trimark. Pass key is not nearly as common.

It says FIC on the key and so far everything I pull up on the internet says it's a Fastec key, but there is no alpha code on the key, only numerical. Sooo frustrating!

Let me check my sources in the morning. I have seen FIC keys with only a 3 digit number.

FIC is Fastec Industrial Corp. They are located in Johnson City, TN and are open for business 8AM to 5PM Mon-Fri. You can give them a call at 1-800-837-2505 in the morning and they will get you what you need.

Good Luck

Here's a pic of the door latch. It says "FIC by FAP." What little I'm finding on the internet is it's Fastec. Right?? It's a Leonardo Travel Trailer Lock.

I'm thinking that I have to replace the lock because the one I have is engineered in Italy by FAP. I'm sorry, but I think it's ridiculous that install a component on a trailer that you can't get parts for!
