Re: Winterization

Newer coaches are equipped with one bypass valve on the cold water intake of the hot water heater. A check valve is also installed on the outlet side of the HWT. So when the bypass is active, the check valve does its job and prevents retroflow of antifreeze into the tank.

It's relatively easy and quick to winterize, as long as you do the proper steps. I manually pumped antifreeze through the city water inlet and it took me maybe a 1/2 hours in total. That includes draining the HWT and opening up the access panel to the water pump.

Unfortunately, I didn't use the DC water pump method as I didn't have the extra quick connect fitting on the inlet side of the pump. If I had, it would have taken only 15 minutes and a whole lot less work.

Good luck.

Is it necessary to winterize my 2013 Cougar High Country 246rls if I keep it plugged to a shore line and maintain the interior temperature at 45 degrees?
We are getting ready to have a cold snap her in Virginia ( 25 degrees night time low).

Water lines and connections under the floor need heat to protect them if they are not drained and winterized. The RV furnace does this when it runs; one line from the furnace dumps heat under the trailer when the belly of the trailer is sealed.
