keystone cougar, can i walk on the roof

Afternoon, I have a 2017 keystone cougar 23 feet, bumper pull, did not come with a ladder to access the roof. Does anyone know if it is safe to walk on my roof without punching through?

Since many of the Keystone trailers are constructed differently, you may or may not be able to walk on the roof safely. This subject has come up frequently and wiser folks than myself have suggested ways of walking on a roof not designed for it. Suggest you do a search and check out some of these older threads.

I'd suggest a call to Keystone's Owner Relations Center (866) 425-4369
Or via the web site https://www.keystonerv.com/owners/contact-us/.
I've used this for some specific questions on our Cougar and found them responsive and competent.

No ladder, then probably not. You can always cut foam board in 2 foot squares to spread the weight around.

The lack of a rear ladder does not mean your roof is non walkable. For instance my old 2013 Cougar has a 3/8" OSB roof over the trusses. The reason a ladder was not installed is because there is a window on one side and that dumb BBQ rack on the other. At least that's what I was led to believe from a very reliable source at Keystone.
At 225# I have no trouble walking up there to inspect and clean.
Can't run or jump though.

My Cougar XLite is a 2014 and does have a "walkable roof" with no ladder. In 2015 and 2016 Keystone moved to 1/4" OSB on some of the Cougar XLite models. On those, the roof is considered 'not a walkable roof". Which is on your RV? It's hard to tell from this distance, but you can determine what thickness OSB is installed on the roof by removing the plastic trim ring from the bathroom roof vent. Once that is removed, you can see the structure. Pull back the white TPO roof membrane that's stapled to the wood vent frame and you can see the OSB sheeting at the top of the framework. If it's 3/8" you have a "walkable roof" if it's 1/4" then you don't.

Even with the 1/4" roof, you can "access the roof" by using plywood covered with carpet (to protect the roof from cuts and scratches) or 2" foam sheeting. Place either of those on the roof to spread the weight and walk/crawl carefully.

Of course, if you're a "500 pound gorilla" then you really need to stay off any RV roof. So, some "common sense" would prevail...... YMMV
