Looking for a TH I can tow.
I have never owned a camper. Since I'm a newbie, I am looking for something well within the limits of my truck.
2013 F150 Supercrew, Ecoboost engine, 3.55 axle, 7100 GVWR, 1607 payload
I think I would do well to keep the tongue weight at 900 or less.
That means a loaded weight of 6000.
With two motorcycles weighing a total of 750, I'm probably looking for a camper at about 4500.
My travel load would be either:
Me alone with two motorcycles in the trailer together weighing 750 pounds or
me and 4 grandkids with no motorcycles.
The trailer must have at least one bed available without unloading, and should be able to sleep me and the 4 grandkids, maybe with adding a cot or an air mattress on the floor.
I looked at the Outback 230S, but at 5086 and 590 hitch weight (with the toys to be loaded near the tongue), I think maybe it is too heavy. In prior years it was 200-300 pounds heavier. From what I have read, most trailers weigh more than the published specs.
Anybody towing a 230S with a half ton?
I don't see anything else in the Keystone stable that looks half ton towable.

atwowheelguy, Howdy;
I Fulltime in my RV and don't like the idea of having to
disconnect everything just to go fishin' for a weekend
so in my searching I stumbled across this forum t&ttt.com
and inside there I found Cargo Trailer Conversions.
Here's an example. The builder just finished it.

I'm not going for anything as fancy. My needs are more simple
and not so flashey.

Thanks. Those are clever, but not my cup 'o tea. I'm looking for turn-key comfort in my dotage.

Energy and Outback both have travel trailer style toyhaulers that may work for what you're trying to do. Keep in mind with the Energy that the heavy list tongue weight will be offset by what you load in the back. Of course that depends on how much weight you carry as to how much lighter the tongue gets. With the Outbacks, the "garage" is in front of the axle, so keep in mind that depending on where the water and waste tanks are located, your loading and travelling configuration may include having to fill the waste tanks to offset the tongue weight. It's "doable" but may be more than you're willing to do for weekend travel.

We love our 230rs, tow it with our 2010 Exp. Don't know if two bikes would fit. IMHO take the bikes to the dealer and TRY it. That is what we did with our toys before purchase.

We have a 2011 Ecoboost but with the 5.73 axel so it gives is a little more towing capacity a no we are going with the Fuzion 300. But we don't have any toys yet you could look at the Dutchman rubicon 1905 or a Forest River 27HFS. I am sure there are plenty others out there as well but those are two that I can think of right now. Have fun!

I'm not sure if you are still looking, but I have a 230RS for sale close to Huntsville, AL. I pull it with a 2010 F150 and have towed it with 2 dirt bikes, 3 people, and gear to dry camp for 3 days and had no issue towing it. I have it listed on Craigslist if you want to check it out:
