Battery Charging

I own a 2012 Raptor Toy Hauler. I've noticed the battery that runs the 5.5K generator isn't charging. It's not charging with the trailer plugged in or with the gen set running. The battery that runs the trailer charges just fine off of the inverter.

So my question is, how is the generator battery charged? Is it charged from the inverter or the gen set? Keystone didn't supply a wiring diagram with the trailer so I thought I would ask before trying to trouble shoot the system.

Thanks for any information

Regards,

Doug

On my Raptor, my two batteries were hooked together which means they are both charged by the converter. I installed a device I read here on the forum which isolates the two batteries but still allows the gen battery to be charged by the converter and keeps the gen battery from being drained by lights, etc.

I recently installed an extra battery to run the generator and found that same problem I wired a relay in to the gen. fuel pump circut so when the gen. is running it energizes the solenoid and charges the gen. battery off the couch batteries. It takes a little wiring but it works.

IF you have the cables for the generator connected to one battery and the RV house system connected to another, only the house battery will be charged with converter/shore or generator. If you connect both 12v batteries in parallel and connect the gen cables to these batteries, they will start the gen and run the house and be charged when gen runs or hooked to shore power. I have run with this setup for a long time w/o problems. I recently went to two 6 volts for house and one group 24 12 volt for starting gen in our Fuzion. Installed a Sure Power battery separator that allows shore or gen to charge the 6 volt batts or the 12 volt batt independently and switches banks or float charges as banks require. The 3 batts fit nicely in the compartment. Here is the link to the thread:
