Booth Dinette removal

Removal of a booth dinette is easy. Steps:

1. Remove table and legs and unscrew the leg holders from the floor
2. Remove all cushions and piece of wood under the bottom cushion; ours was just set in place
3. Take off the 3 button covers from the top of each booth and unscrew the 3 screws. Lift off the top.
4. Remove the two screws from the booth against the wall. They are LONG screws. Remove the one screw holding the booth with a faux wood back going into the wall. It is a LONG screw.

5. Remove the four screws on each bench going into the back wall. They are LONG. Remove the screws going into the floor. They are also long.

6. Our booth bench had an electrical outlet installed. The outlet has "wings" that flip open when you unscrew from the front and the purpose of the wings is told the outlet in the hole in the bench. There were two clips nailed into the frame of the bench holding the electrical cable and once these are removed, the outlet is hanging free. It comes out of the slide wall on our camper about 2' from the floor and that is where a new outlet will be located.

7. Booths came out of trailer easily. Bulky but not heavy so a friend is helpful.

8. When I removed the 110V outlet from the bottom of the booth closest to the slide wall I noted it had two "wings" that held it in place. Loosen and cut a hole in the slide wall where the power comes through and installed the outlet in that location. Probably should have cut the wire and shortened but just stuffed it inside the wall. There was a couple extra feet.

9. Took a piece of wall board that was in back of the electrical outlet inside the booth seat and cut it into a couple 2" strips and used it to extend the trim on the left side of the slide as the trim there was not used UNDER the booth and a gap showed. Used finish nails as I don't have a stapler capable of going through the board. Finished the holes by counter-sinking them and applying a bit of caulk.

10. Bought a clear vinyl desk mat at Office Depot to put under the table and will put some felt pads on the bottom of the chair legs.

Table/chairs due to arrive tomorrow; gave the booth to a neighbor who will use them in a single wide he is remodeling.

A pic of dinette gone and dinette when it was in place.

I knew you could do it. Nice job .... look at all that room. No dancing in the slide out.

We will need some pics after you have it set up the way you want it.

The small dinette table/chairs from Ikea; hope these work OK in the space. The missus is going to pick up one of the plastic pads/mats you put under desk chairs tomorrow when she goes into town shopping.

Lookin' good, fella! Dinettes are an evil growth out of the 50's. You will enjoy the table/chairs much more.

The cushion on a dinette is the spawn of the devil! I added non-slip material to the wood piece under the cushion and it still slipped out and the foam is pathetic. Some day I am going to offer my services FREE to Keystone and help design their coaches. Wouldn't take much more money to turn one into a well thought out and comfortable place to camp. I don't think that whoever does the designing is actually an RVer... just a suspicion.

Last note on the booth removal.... put the booth on Craigslist and had four contacts and got rid of the booth the next day. Asked $165 and glad I didn't have to try and find a place to stash it. LOTS of folks seem to want those old booths!

From your post, I take it you had no issues getting the booth through the entry door ???

No issues taking the booth out the door. No manipulation needed as it was about 1/2" more narrow than the door opening. I think taking it out is greatly aided by an extra set of hands outside. To get it through the door it has to be lifted over the stairs going up into the bedroom and that is about it. The booth sections themselves probably weight 25 lbs or so.

New dinette is put together and it and chairs are in place. If you get an Ikea table/chairs like I bought, get an M4 hex driver bit and use a socket wrench. The provided "tool" they supply is miserable.

Interesting and looks good George. I was thinking about using the existing hardware and just making a new smaller wood table. I have the bench on 3 sides. Was there many holes in the walls after removing the bench. Whats with the plastic, protection for the carpet? I guess it would be easy enough to change the flooring under the table if you wanted to? I like the idea of table and chairs for comfort, but what about when travelling? Do you strap the table and chairs down?

The carpet sort of has to stay in a slide out room. There is an ugly lip where the slide rides over the floor in the cabin and I can't think of a way to cover that lip with anything other than carpet. There probably are ways, just don't know of any. The plastic is there because the carpet is under where we eat. The chairs also move over it a bit better. Holes in the wall? Two on the outside of the slide where the top part of the booths screwed in and about four for each bench and these are easily filled with some bland hole filler. Doubt anyone would notice.

Did you also remove the jack-knife sofa? Looks like it from last picture. Could you also post picture & info about this. Thanks, Mac

Good observation Mac. Table and chairs would be great instead of the bench but not ready to do that yet to my 2018 22rbs. I guess you have to strap them down when travelling?

We had a trifold sofa. It was NOT comfortable. To remove, you just pull the back section off the base. Take it out the door. Put it on Craigslist and sell for $175. Then look at same Craigslist and find a LazyBoy reclining love seat and buy it for $150. Take it to your tailer, pull off the back and take it through the door and set it where the old trifold was. A huge upgrade and if there are any people (such as relatives) bugging you to go camping there is now no bed for them to sleep on and that sort of kills two birds with one stone. Trifold sofa was NOT bolted or attached in any way.

On our list for this spring. Going to do the same, except putting two lazyboys where the table was (can watch the TV better). Will be pulling down small tie down loops for the table & chairs. Hoping lazyboys will ride Ok. If not will be tieing them down after first trip.

Sounds like a plan Mac. Hope it goes as well as George's. I think he made money. Funny thing, we had the option of two chairs instead of the benches and table in the 22rbs. We went for the practicality of having the table, benches, and extra bed. I'm thinking in the future to hinge a table to the wall with one leg only, and find a couple of chairs that swivel.

If you hinge inside the slide, keep in mind there isn't much of a gap with the outside wall. Short toggle bolts might be the best option. There won't be anything solid in there to put a screw into. Your idea would work but in our case, the chairs would be facing away from the TV set. We like to watch the morning news while we eat breakfast.

It would have to be a solid install for travelling so I think I would glue and screw a 1x3 or 4 the width of the table on the wall first then attach the table to that. Chairs would be positioned like in your picture. Advantage is a longer table, one leg, and no need to tie it down when on the move.
