Michigan upper peninsula suggestions

Well, for the second year in a row our trip to Hunting Island SC has been derailed by a hurricane. The Park is hoping to reopen by next week but nothing is firm. We may have to come up with an alternate plan and the upper peninsula in Michigan has come up as a new possible destination. We have a dog, prefer State or National Parks, need water and electric. Any suggestions for a new adventure are appreciated. Thanks

We just did part of a long trip and spent some time in the U.P. In June/July. We stayed at State Parks: Tahquamenon Falls, Fort Wilkins and McLain (downstate we stayed at Muskegon). All spots had power, but none had water. Previously we have stayed at Twin Lakes, Brimley, and Van Riper State Parks. Never had a bad experience at any of them. You can fill up with water on your way in and if you have a standard fresh water fill port can add water as needed.

A couple not mentioned, Indian lake and Straits state parks. If you go to Indian Lake be sure and see Kitch-Iti-Kipi (The Big Spring)

There have been two extensive threads within the last 3 weeks about trip planning and recommendations of things to see/places to stay in the UP. Take a look at those threads, there's also a thread from March, 2019 and at least two threads last year about trips to the UP.

Do a forum search and you'll find loads of information about trips to northern Michigan and the UP. It's a great place to visit, a great place to live and an even better place to use as much "bug spray as you can pack"....

Been to the u.p. many times and only once was bothered by bugs, black flies. Not everyone looks at a situation the same. Some would complain if they saw a mosquito

We spend at least a month or more in the UP every summer and we make a "spring fishing trip" to a very, VERY (did I mention that it's VERY) remote lake in the UP. Every year we're attacked by swarms of deer flies, black flies, mosquitoes and ticks. We don't seem to be able to escape them, even in the boat when on the water. Most outdoor activity around the trailer is confined to the screen room and we go through at least one bottle of Deep Woods Off as well as half a bottle or more of Avon Skin So Soft.

That doesn't deter us from planning the next trip as we "swat bugs" on the current trip. We've already got plans for next year and have ordered the replacement fishing lures that we used/lost this year. We'll wait until spring to replace the Avon and Off so we have the "freshest available" as we head north !!!!

I suppose my comments were more a "tongue in cheek reminder" to not forget the bug spray, you'll need it if you venture into the "wilds of the UP".....

If you are going up to the UP in the next few weeks bug are not your issue.

Rain and cool will probably be what you'll experience some of the time. But, enjoy, it is a great place to go.

Enjoy.
