Trim gap opened up on 2008 Everest

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me what is going on with this gap that has opened up in the trim at the front of my 2008 Everest? It closes back up when the weight is on the front jacks. The trailer had very low mileage on it when I bought it in the spring, and I have now towed it about 12,000 miles. Pic at attached link. Any advice much appreciated.

Dean

Was it ever towed with a gooseneck?

That is from the frame flexing. That little bit of flex is in the normal range, but keep an eye on it. Our rig about a year and a half ago flexed so bad that there was a gap between the edge of the trim and the edge of the fiberglass siding. Turned out we had a broken frame that needed a mobile RV tech who was also a welder to come to the campground to take things apart and weld the frame, adding gussets to add strength to the frame. Nothing flexes now, so he did a great job. Another place to watch, which isn't the cause of your issue, is above where the pin box attaches to the frame. You have to drop the pin box to look for breaks there, but if you start seeing the pin box flex too much when hooking up or when you are traveling, it's time to investigate the cause.

This is in front of the driver's side propane tank, where the frame broke and welds had failed. The frame actually totally broke in the top-right corner of the photo, and this is the beam that goes all the way across to the other side.

Thanks for the replies folks. I don't think it was towed using a gooseneck. And it was not like this when I bought it. A broken frame is my worst fear, and I don't even want to know how much that would be to disassemble and repair. I am heading for the US in a few weeks, and now I am afraid to drive with it like this. I am supposed to be leaving tomorrow for southern Alberta. I don't want to overreact, but I don't want to make any damage worse either. Why would this be happening with so few miles on the rig? I have not overloaded or abused it.
