Suggestions?

We just purchased our first RV and, like many of you I assume, there are some mods I'd like to do. Most are simple but I'm sure there are plenty of lessons learned on here.

First thing I need to add is a place to hang towels in the bathroom. I know this is simple and I'm over complicating things but, I want these to hold up. I've got three youngsters and I know that they will pull on what ever I put up. I bought some hooks to mount to the wall however I think I want to put them on the door because I can replace the door easier than repair a big hole in the wall. Which brings me to the real qurstions? How thick is the face of these doors? What material are the walls? Paneling? How thick or thin are they? What have you all done?

Second, I'd like to add an under carriage spare tire mount. I've looked at both the BAL brand slide out and also the winch type offered by Lippert and others. I like both of them but, I also have dislikes. Anyone have experience with these?

Thanks for the suggestions!!

I love the BAL Hide a Spare, easy to install, good price, functional and easy to use.

As for hanging towels, the doors and wallboard are both thin. I would recommend mounting hooks to a separate board and anchor that to the wallboard with toggles that spread the load out. Small screws on individual hooks won't last long mounted directly to the wall.

For hanging towels we use simple and cheap "over the door" hangers such as these:

3M hooks, best thing going. We just traded in our trailer and I took them all down so I can reuse them in the new trailer.

The anchors are the problem. Most anchors are for 1/2" drywall or thicker. I did manage to find some for hollow core doors but, I'm curious if the RV doors are the same thickness. They seem to be pretty thin.

I should've mentioned that we have an over the door type now and it seems that it is springing the hinges even with it slid all the way to the latch side.

Thanks. Tell me about the 3M hooks. I was worried that the heat from storage would cause the adhesive to let go. I did note that you said you were going to use them again. Are these removable? Do they leave a residue? How do you get them off?

If you mount your towel hooks onto a 1x4 board and then mount that to the wall board with the toggle bolts, you will have approximately a 7/8" board thickness. As I mentioned before, that also spreads the load out. Everything you hang on the hooks is getting spread out across the entire board and all anchor points, not just a couple small screws.

I use Command products all over the camper. I also have over the door towel racks. I put round Velcro pads under the part that hangs on the door so it doesn't slide when opening or closing the door.

What model RV do you own?
Our RV came with the crank down holder for the spare located under the rear of the trailer. Works for us. Our last RV had the same thing under the front of the RV.

What we did for "holders" in the bathroom. I did put a "backer board" behind the towel holder next to the sink.

We have a Hideout 308BHDS. It cane with one of those bumper style spare carriers. I like the under carriage style, they really clean things up. I just can't decide which one I want, both have pros and cons. Thanks for the pics, I really like the TP idea.

What Harley ^^^^ said about the 3M double stick removable tape hangers.
We just sold our Raptor and removed seven of the stainless (looking) coat hooks. Not one ever failed, including in Florida heat. And not even one left a mark when removed.

For that TP idea on the back of a cupboard door, what do you have on the front? I don't really want to see some screw heads or anything.. i'm assuming they go through since those doors are pretty thin.
