Rock guard advice

I think I am ready to buy/install a rock guard to protect the new RV. I'd like one that is easy to remove/install. Anyone have any good advice?

Don't have a recommendation but I have thought about an upgrade. I wonder if adding a coating of spray on bed liner would work? Something I'm researching.

On the last trip while traveling on I90 in NY, a piece of scrap flew off a scrap truck, which just pulled in front of me, and hit somewhere on the Raptor Thinking of putting a full cage guard around the Raptor

We have installed numerous rock guards and I have yet to see one that is "portable" meaning take off and put on at will. They are all a bit on the heavy side and very awkward to handle.

I would suggest mud flaps. But if your set on a rock guard, you could cut the chain length and use something like this:

Rock tamer flaps are probably the better way to go in my opinion. We see units come in all the time that are beat up above rock guards

The front of my trailer is damage free and I tow on gravel roads. Easy to remove and store with a wall-mount bracket. Get the aluminum version for light weight.

X2 I put a pair of rock tamers on when we got the Cougar. Probably been close to 10k miles towing and and not one rock chip And, yes, we do travel on secondary and gravel roads.
Our previous bumper pull had the faux diamond plate and we had dents all the way up the front from rocks being thrown up by the TV.
$200+ for the Rock Tamers was a good investment IMHO

I’ve been using the Rock Tamers for over 12 years. I’ve gone through 3 generations of them and they are constantly improving the product. They need to work in combination with behind the wheel mud flaps for the best protection. On my first truck I did the Rock Tamers at first because I was being picky trying to find just the right behind the wheel flap that I wanted. Without that, rocks shot over the top of the rock tamers and still hit the front of the fiver. With both sets, nothing gets through.

If you go that route, I would recommend that you back into any perpendicular parking when using them particularly if you have a dually. They stick out past the bumper in this configuration. I lost a flap in a convenience store parking lot when someone backing out of their space must have caught the end of the mudflap horizontal tube on their front fender. Never touched the truck body or bumper. Interestingly, the hollow tube did not collapse and break but radiused back accross its length at about 45 degrees. The person who did it was long gone but I only needed that lesson taught to me once.

My current set is the 2 1/2 inch receiver type as well. The mud flaps are oversized to be compatitible with all types and height vehicles. They have prescored trim areas to get the right length by removing the excess. Just remember to do the measuring while hitched to prevent them from dragging(if your bed drops at all). I’ve done this with every set and also with the current set. Only I added air bags afterwards to relevel and now they are too short. I’ll be ordering another set of the mudflaps only to fix my mistake soon.

Might I ask which one of you fine advisers left out the phrase "Some assembly required?" It turned out to be a two-beer project.....

Sorry about the “some assembly required”. I’m always the wordy one. Did I leave that out?

PPL is having a sale on Rock Tamer flaps, $199 with free shipping.
https://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/...ystem-01-27-18

The bottom of that page has several different choices, some that are extremely affordable and some, not so much....
