Looking for Advice
Greetings all,
I have certainly enjoyed interacting with all of you over the past couple of years.
I am going to sell my 2011 318SAB and, not wanting to leave a pile of cash on the table, need some consultation of what it is worth.
I purchased it new from a local Va dealer in December 2010 for $28,910. I was told at the time that the MSRP was $42,000. The same dealer is contemplating an offer in "the mid-teens"
It has a new EDPM roof tires have recently been replaced with good tread.
I would certainly appreciate any input from the group, as well as suggestions as to where to sell it.
Thanks,
John

I think the dealers original claim with regard to the MSRP is rather high. I'd have to see a factory invoice to believe that number unless its absolutely loaded. That being said, his offer in the mid teens is going to allow him to ask the mid to upper twenties, and then negotiate down to a figure thet'll still have him making a solid 5K on the unit upon resale. I think you should be able to get 20K (or close) for your trailer.

I don't know the RV market in Virginia but is probably waning til spring arrives. Sit on it and go Craigslist in February after everyone's dust settle from Christmas shopping. I dislike dealerships for used sells or buys because of that 2000-5000 dollar swing.
The BEST time to sell or buy is when you don't have to. Then you're using every brain cell and emotions are removed.

Yes watch that ebay ad, if after 6 days there is still no bids then it probably will not sell.
If you can wait to sell till after the holidays try selling it yourself,
you will end up with more $$ that way.
If you do not want to try selling it on your own, then trade it in and
be done with it.
Not many people make money selling their RV's, the depreciation
can be as bad as 40% over the first couple of years.
When I bought my TT last May, it was 1-1/2 yrs old and the original
owner had used it about 15 weekends. He took about a 30% depreciation hit from what he paid.

Im not sure how the taxes work where you are. In Canada you only pay the taxes on the difference or the cash exchanged to buy a new unit. Since the tax rate here is 13% the tax saved on a trade in value of $18,000 would be $2,340. At these figures you would have to sell it for $21,340 just to be the same as trading it in.
