Slide outs jerky travel

New 33res, just the treated rubber seals. Now the slide outs go in and out jumpy. Jerk, jerk, jerk... as it travels. Does that happen when the new seal treatment is applied? Both of the rear slides started this jumpy travel immediately after treating the seals. Thoughts?

Tell us what you used. I have had 2 rvs with slides and spray the rubber seals several times a year. Never caused any issues so far, about 10 years. On my 2second can of Camo? brand of seal lube spray, got it at the dealer.

Could be a coincidence, are they cable, electric or hydraulic slides?

Do a search. I do remember seeing a post recently about exactly what you are talking about. I think it was on this forum. The poster had to remove what they had put one and put another product on. Sorry I can't remember more but your situation sure sounds like the one I remember.

Dealer sold it to me when we picked up the TT new. First time applying it.

Bedroom is gear and it works fine. Trouble is with the kitchen and living room, both are cable.

Use the Protect All on the seals. Clean the exterior sidewalls and the exterior floor of the slide out with a bit of acetone on a clean microfiber cloth. I would test a small spot first to be sure you won't damage the finish with the acetone.
Then get the WD40 Specialist Dry Lube with PTFE doesn't attract dirt or dust, spray that on the bottom of the exterior floor. Then slip the WD40 nozzle spray tube between the exterior floor seal and the floor, and spray into the area that the slide retracts into. Spray into the width of the floor.
***This is assuming you have the exact same slide construction that I have.

I doubt that spraying the rubber seals with that spray was anything to do with the problem. I would be looking else where. As others mentioned. If it was do to what I think would be the likely problem, Electrical. I would start there. To further help with that, what is your source of power. Do not over look at the other posts for a solution.

Prior to last week, I only applied seal conditioner to the top and side seals and never experienced any jerkiness.

I had the same view until last week when I sprayed the bottom sweep and underside of the slide for the first time. I had jerkiness over the full travel extending and retracting the slide.

After cleaning the bottom sweep and underside of the slide with isopropyl alcohol, I now only get an occasional jerkiness at only the start of the retraction of the slide and it is reducing with every subsequent slide movement.

This sure seems odd. Slides operate smooth as silk so as preventative measure you clean and wipe the seals with treatment. This causes pretty violent jerking in and out. Having trouble getting my head around it.
But it just can't be a coincidence... jerking started on both slides immediately after treatment. And it has happened to others.
So if it ever quits raining in Indianapolis I will start by cleaning the lower seals and surfaces that slide on them with denatured alcohol.

With the cable slides, the whole slide-out rests on a couple of rollers. There isn't two rows of rollers to keep the slide balanced, the cables do that. There are eight cables: one at each corner. The cable mechanism works as a give-and-take system. It is this system that keeps the slide balanced and not tip over. If the cables aren't adjusted just right, the slide tips over (how much it tips depends on how out of adjustment the cables are) a bit. Then, as the cables tighten up, it pulls/jerks the slide.

Once the slide reaches the all-out or all-in position, the wall and frame of the slide meet and forces it plumb.

Long story short, the cables might need adjusting. When in all-out position, check for uniform slack in all four outside cables. When in all-in position, check for uniform slack in all four inside cables. Cables should not be loose, but have about 1 inch of total movement in the center.

With time to spare this week, I tried to make my slide jerk by over lube. I have a gear driven slide and the under side of the slide is covered with the black plastic that is also covering the underside of the plywood floor. Like a blue tarp only black. It is a ruff surface, maybe different then your trailers. I cleaned the sides of the slide and coated with 303. I sprayed all seals with the seal spray. I am on shore power with GOOD batteries. I even sprayed the gears with a dry lube. Inside the trailer the slide floor and floor it rolls over is carpeted. Over a couple hours it still works as it should.

I wounder why the rv industry went with nordictrack system . The rack and pinion system I had on my 2003 fleetwood work flawlessly and it was a 17 foot slide. It appears the cable system isn't as good the mechanical system.

The dealer just replaced my bottom wiper seal. It was tearing towards the rear and causing a jerky slide. To me, it looked like the opening didn't have enough room for the seal.

I had the same problem last year. After pulling my hair out playing with the adjustments I finally spoke to a tech rep at accu-slide. He told me to clean the bottom of the slide when it was out and spray Zep Z-Works Chlorinated Lubricant on the bottom where I cleaned it. Run the slide in, out and back in and leave it overnight. I haven't had a problem since. When you spray it on wipe it lightly with a towel, if you put it on too thick it will get on your rug inside.

I just don't think the problem happens with gear drives as much as it does on cable drives. It appears that the spray lube creates a "gummyness" or some change in friction and when the cables try and move the slide out it takes more than normal power to do so. When the cables exert more and more pressure the slide breaks free and pops out a bit and the cable then goes slightly slack and the slide out box stops then the cables tighten up and the process starts again. I have been monitoring this jerky movement all summer... hoping it would clear up from time/use/evaporation. Nope. It is time for me to get under their and clean the spray cleaner/lube off.

The problem is not in the seals. The way it was explained to me was that there is a rub strip on the bottom that dries out and the slide drags along it. By lubing the bottom it stops the jerking. The person I spoke to is Tim Bell at accu-slide. When I started explaining my problem he knew exactly what I was talking about.

It didn't work for me and a lot of others. I believe its the fiber mash netting used. On my small slide the bottom material is plastic or teflon . Its been into the dealer several times with no luck of repair and yes I have tried most suggestions on the forums. I did buy the extended warranty .

I didn't see an issue until I used Thetford Seal conditioner. As many have stated before, don't use it on the bottom seal of the slide. I believe this caused friction on the "rub strip".
