Ac running something as soon as plugged in even when off

I posted a while back about how the champion 2000 watt genny was drawing down or quitting just trying to charge the batteries with the converter and you guys said turn off all the breakers and turn them on 1 by 1

When we did this we found the ac unit breaker was the one bogging down the genny

I left it off but just plugged into shore power for the first time and the progressive industries surge protector shows we are drawing up to 26 amps and we had the breaker to the ac on but the thermostat completely off and the ac is definitely humming/vibrating like it is doing something

Something is running inside the ac even when the thermostat is off, any help would be great
This is nuts

Here is some more clarification- we did wire in the micro air today and it seems to function correctly

But the ac has not been used or tested since fall and it is possible it is malfunctioning

Basically what is happening is the ac seems to be running a little high on amps but then when you turn the thermostat off the compressor keeps running and starts climbing in amps up to like 25

It does this climbing for several minutes and then shuts off and the amps drop to 5-6

We have an email into micro air to see if we have it wired wrong, but the deal where it was killing the genny when it was not supposed to be on makes me think the ac is messed up

Yes i should have run the ac a good bit to make sure it was fine before we did the micro air but it has been an unreal busy month and i did not think about it

Any thoughts on this runaway turned off ac compressor would be great

Wanted to update this

There was a relay stuck open in the control panel for my ac, The entire control box has to be swapped out, the relay is not replaceable on my unit

On my unit which is ducted this control panel is accessed from below/ inside the camper
It is an easy swap out cost about $60-70 for the panel on mine
