Passport 2810bh f150

Hello,
I am looking to purchase my first tt. Got my eye on a 2017 passport 2810bh. Question can I tow it legally and safely with my f150. Info below on my truck.

04 f150 5.4l supercrew 4x4 with tow package trans cooler

3.73 gears and limited slip.

Gross weigh of truck is 7200# from the label plate

I have rancho 9000 adjustable shocks and 295/70/17 tires load range E. Also I have the quick lift struts from rancho on the front.

Based on my math I should be good. Gcvw is 15000 and max trailer weight is 9200. The 2810bh is roughly 5100 dry. I plan to keep it dry when hauling. So if I haul me 200# wife 160# 2 kids and 60# total minus 150# person ford uses in their cal that is 7200 plus 270 equals 7470. Then add the trailer at 5100 and that equals 12570. That would give me a bit of wiggle room for gear.

Any thoughts experiences etc would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum from Southern MD. I have a 2810 and love it. I don't see your payload listed. You need to consider that when you are considering what to buy too. The tongue weight will increase when you load clothes, tools, leveling blocks, chairs, & whatever to your storage bins. I had a Chevy Silverado 1500 with a payload of 1751 lbs and I was ok. But when fully loaded my trucks rear axle was within 200 lbs of max. Need to consider that rating too. You are doing the right thing by looking at the math first, before you buy. Let us know what you decide. Have fun shopping.

1530lbs payload for my truck according to the manual. 625lbs hitch weight dry for the trailer. So that would give me some wiggle room for cargo. Would my passengers count toward the payload? I would also want a weight distribution hitch.

Did you look at the actual sticker on the door post or is that figure from the manual...??

Passengers and anything else you put in the truck count toward your payload. The payload sticker on the door frame also has the tire size and pressure on it.

That's based on the tech sheet online. Sticker on the post just tells the gross weight allowed. Guess I need to make a trip to the scale with the family I. The truck get the weight and subtract from the gross weight to get a rough payload.

I run larger tires too. Will that help or hinder? I have roughly a 33x11.50xr17 on there

There should be two stickers. One with GVWR and axle ratings and the other with tire and payload information. If the larger tires you running are heavier than the OEM ones were that weight will also count against your payload.

Unfortunately I only have one (dang ford) and it has the all the info you described except payload on it. Shame. I'm going to run to the scale tomorrow to get the curban weight. I did Google the weight for my truck and with my kids wife gas, rounding numbers up, I would only have 160# wiggle room after the trailer tongue weight. That's close. Need a good curb weight on my truck to feel comfortable. May look at a smaller trailer too.

I pulled a 2920bh that is very similar to yours with my 1500 Silverado. Loaded I was about 1000lbs toung weight and 6000lbs total. It was under my technical limits, but was a bit white knuckle at times. You'll probably be fine, but if you're like me you'll trade in your half ton before long.

Ok so I found a 2014 passport 2650bh that's in mint condition. Asking 15k for it. Dry weight of 4900# and tongue weight of 550#. Payload of truck is 1500# I weigh 200#, wife 165, 80# combined for kids. 300# of supplies and gear. Think I am good to go? Also is 15k a good price? Seems to fall inline with nada.

GVW of the trailer is about 7200 lbs. With a family and small kids you will get there. That said, the tongue will be in the vicinity of 1000 lbs. Expected load in cab...200+165+80+300+100 (hitch) = 845. 1000 + 845 = 1845 load vs 1500 payload so you will be overloaded. Just some quick numbers to think about.

To add to the overload identified by sourdough, the kids weigh 80 pounds (combined) today, next year, it'll be 100, then 120, then 100 each. Keep in mind that as they grow, so does the size of the toys they want along for the weekend. That plastic "3 wheeler" turns into a bike, then two bikes, then a dirtbike then......

So, the load in the tow vehicle will only get heavier and heavier, probably much faster than you'd imagine.

So pretty much I need a f350! Lol. Trust me I want one. But I can only survive one car payment at a time. This time next year I will be free and clear though. May just wait on the TT and do it correctly by getting a bigger truck. Thanks.

The only way to know for sure if you'll be overweight is to buy a rig, load it up and take a trip to the scale. Your tongue weight and weight of your TT will depend on how it's loaded. I used to tow my 2810 with a 1500 and was within 200 lbs of my rear axle load and was well under all other weights. The payload for the truck was about 1700 lbs. My TT had plenty of room before it hit max too. Good luck.

I don't know that you need an F350. That's probably overkill for sure, but something more than a "medium payload half ton" is surely warranted. There are some "much beefier" payloads in the half ton series, up to about 8100 pounds, but I'd ask if you're going that far, why not just move up to the 10K in a 3/4 ton and get all the 'truck bennies" like the fully floating rear axle to boot?

Dream truck is the F350, I was being a bit sarcastic. I'm going to go look at some new trailers this weekend for size and ideas. His will be my first so I don't want to go to crazy.
