299RKS Slide Problem - on the road now

Hi All, we have a 2011 Cougar High Country 299RKS. We were closing up yesterday to move on and the main slide (electric cable) started making a horrendous noise and was "bucking". Freaked me out for sure. I stopped and tired to look at all the moving parts. The cables are intact and not frayed. I notice the holes seem to be elongating inward pretty much at all 4 cables cutting through the thin metal but it does not appear to be damaging the cables AND this does not seem to be the source of the noise.

Anyway, I finished getting the slide close and we headed off to our next stop. On the way we called ahead to find an RV repair shop and arranged to stop by and have a technician take a look. When we got there a tech took a pretty good look around, bringing the slide in and out and agreed the cables, motor and pullies all seemed to be okay but he felt the slide floor was binding. He sprayed some dry lubricant all along the bottom rubber "wipe" but that didn't do anything.

The noise seems to be caused by the slide floor rubbing on the trailer floor as it rides in and out (mostly in). It even causes it to "buck".

We are less than a week into a 4 week road trip. The tech could only inspect the main running components and felt it wasn't in any imminent danger of failure but it is definitely not operating correctly.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks, Paul

Paul -

When the slide is fully retracted or put out , is there any space or gap at one of the sides. There should be equal spacing between the slide and the body of the RV. Perhaps the slide is not aligned properly and it is retracting in a twisted or misaligned position causing the jerking or bucking ???? Any sign of a screw that might be protruding downwards from the slide floor to the RV floor? Something caught between the two floors? Just thinking out loud here.......

Similar issue

My 2011 Outback has a slight alignment issue. I was able to schedule a slide adjustment appt at Camping World but had to cxl due to a conflict. I would have a major rv center check alignment.
P.s. maybe that noise part is a squished rat. Send the DW to check that out!

Festus2, the RV Tech and I looked for all those things and didn't see anything that stood out. It was raining and we didn't bring the trailer into the bay but we did look it over pretty good. I do agree with both you and Outbackmel, I think it is out of alignment. That's why it's wearing the holes the cable runs through.

When we return I will take it in to get it realigned. I am just hoping it doesn't have any catastrophic failure while were on this trip.
