Question for Carbon 357 Owners

Do you have a 12volt cigarette style plug in your RV?

Have not found one. Usually they are located with the TV power amp but not on mine.

I suspect they did away with them, could be nice to see a USB charging port in its place, but I can easily add one.

The newer rigs don't seem to have the cigar lighter style outlet on the television amp panels as much as they used to.

We dry camp a lot so I added two cigar style outlets and a dual USB charging port near the entertainment center. They get used a lot over the course of a two week stay.

I don't have a carbon 357 but I have a 326srx and it has a USB ports and cigar socket right by the bed and if I'm not mistaken behind the TV. Weird how little things like that are different from each line of trailers.

We are in the same boat and mine doesn't have any either. I wish I was comfortable with adding them. Anybody have a video or article on how to add one?

Mike, probably the easiest way is to buy one of the duplex receptacles that have a single or dual USB port on the front at Lowe's/HD or Ace Hdwe and swap it out yourself.

He's going to find that when he pulls the receptacle from the wall, they are nothing like residential ones. There's no box; instead, the duplex has a back cover and the wires feed directly into and out of it in a single package. It's RV specific and can not be used in residential per code.

I had one out of the wall in my trailer a couple of weeks ago, and should have taken a pic of it.

The easiest to way to do this, IMHO, is to buy a 12vdc USB charging port and hook it up to the hot and ground wires near any of the lights that can be turned on and off only with the built-in switch. They always have the hot side hot. Some of the ceiling lights are switched from a wall switch and the hot is cut off there.

When I installed mine, I popped out the entertainment center and grabbed the hot and ground wire for it, and installed the USB in a small blank wooden panel of the cabinetry. I also installed a pair of cigar lighter style outlets. The switch to the left turns the USB on an off. We dry camp and the USB pulls a small amount of current constantly so I shut it off when not in use. I have since added a second switch that kills all power to the entertainment center for the same reason.
