GY Endurance vs Carlisle

Sorry, another thread on tires... We are replacing our Trailer King tires before our summer holidays really begin.

My 8 ply options from local tires shops are:

1. Hercules Power ST2
2. Carlisle 6H04591
3. Goodyear Endurance

Are the Goodyears worth the extra money.

Are the Carlisle tires just as good?

Are the Hercules any good?

THANKS!

I have the Carlisle Radial HD and can attest that they are a good tire in my experience. I've not owned the other 2. I will say that from the feedback I've read here and other forums it seems the Endurance is getting off to a good start but just doesn't have a very long history behind it. The Hercules? I don't know but I would stick with the proven brands for my RV.

I've had the GY Endurance tires on my trailer for over a year now and I'm very happy with them so far. I agree with going with a proven tire.... whichever you choose.

If it was me; and I too will be changing tires shortly, I would be happy with either the Carlisle or the Goodyears. I had those two choice on my last trailer and I wanted to try the Goodyears and was completely satisfied with them. They where less than 3 weeks old when the local tire dealer got them. They tracked and ran well but I only had a little over 3k miles on them. I haven`t decided just yet on the new trailer but am leaning back towards the GY.

I ran Carlisle on my lighter 5ers for many years and many miles. I never had a problem. Endurance sounds good so far, we will know better in another 3 years. Not worth double in my opinion.
I do not trust GY. When Marathon came out they were good tires. Then they turned to junk. GY sold many tires to my builders knowing they were designed for local delivery vehicles and not over the road. The tires caused many accidents, injuries, and a few deaths.
On my heavy 5ers I run Sailun.

I switched out my factory ST 205 75R 14D with GY Endurance ST 215 75R 14D. Could tell difference right away with how much better TT tracked behind truck with better and bigger tires.

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to go with the Carlisles! The GY are only $125 more for 4, but, we can put that $125 towards an EMS!

Hercules ST and ST2 is what I got for the boat trailer mainly due to low price. Most trips are 2 miles or less to ramp. I noted right away the Hercules ST tire was the 100% same tread as the Trailer Kings on the TT. Upon looking up the data from the tires(printed on side wall) they are made by the same company in China in a different city than Trialer Kings. ST2s are a little different tread pattern. I ripped the side walls out on 2 of the STs. That was my fault by backing up into fixed rocks next to the ramp. The ST2 is the newer model. I have not taken time to look those up to see if their still the same as TKs. So, are they better or not? I doubt it.

GY Endurance vs Carlisle

I had 15" Carlisle Radial Trail HD on previous trailer and now have 16" GY Endurance on FW.

IMO, the build quality and thread depth on the Radial Trail HD is superior to that of the GY Endurance. The Endurance have wavy sidewalls and the threads look like they will wear out within a couple of seasons.

Unless Carlisle takes a quality/reliability dive in the next couple of years, they will replace the GY when the time comes.

Me thinks that Carlisle offers a very good ST tire for the money.

Tires are ordered! I misread one of my quotes (they put "Car" Radial Trail HD instead of "Carlisle") and they are another $100 cheaper than the other shop we were going with!

So now I'm off to Amazon for an EMS!

That's what we did as well, mainly since ST205/75R14 LRD are the heaviest 14 inch tire that Carlisle makes. The new version of our trailer is coming from the factory with the wider ST215/75R14 LRD tires for the extra reserve capacity. The GY Endurance was the only name brand ST215/75R14 LRD tires that I could find. Carlisle has a ST215/75R14 but only in LRC. What I would really like to see is for them to come out with a ST205/75R14 LRE if there is such a thing. Not a tire expert so I'm not sure if a 14 inch LRE even makes sense.

LRE and higher are more for the bigger rigs, at that point I would go to Sailun tires

I traded my factory Trailer King "Tow Master" China Bombs out with "D" rated Carlisle tires and got good use out of them, with the exception of a Blow Out on one. I then traded up to "E" rated. Two years ago I had one of the Carlisle's tread separate and a bulge start on another. Going to Discount Tire I told them to put some Carlisle's back on the trailer. The dealer said that they have been having problems on the Carlisle's as of late and suggested the GY Endurance (not the Marathon's). I've had them on for 15,000 miles now and they are performing well. Some of the benefits of the GY Endurance are they are made in the US, They have a stiffer side wall and they have an 87 MPH speed rating. Now, I pull my trailer at 65 MPH, but what the higher speed rating gives is better durability in the heat of the summer. Where I live the tires are HOT before you even get on the road. While I'm on my soapbox, let me caution you all about chasing tires based on price. Until you've had a blow out that tore up your entire mid section of the trailer taking the kitchen with it, then you'll be glad to buy the best tires, not just the cheapest tires. It hasn't happened to me but a friend of mine lost use of his 5th wheel 3 summers ago due to the damage of a tire blowout.

Good year marathon tires were not as good as the new Goodyear endurance tires. Goodyear redesigned the tires. The biggest thing to look for , in my opinion, is the max speed for the tires. Most tires are rated at 60-65 mph. Once exceeded the tires can blow out. The maxxis is rated at 85 mph and the new Goodyear endurance is rated at 95 mph. I have Power King Towmax STR and they are rated at 75 mph.
When you exceed the max speed of the tire they heat up past their maximum design temp and explode. I would go with the new Goodyear endurance

Sorry, Maxxis has no tire speed information on their sidewalls. Without a speed rating on the ST tires sidewalls they revert to 65 MPH. All of the GY Endurance tires have a speed letter N=87 MPH.

I was thinking if I should replace my original Provider ST235/85R16G tires with the GY Endurance tires, but I haven't been able to find any this size and rating except LT tires which I do not wish to change to. Am I just not looking in the right places? (sorry if off of thread subject but this thread reminded me of this)

You'll need GY 614s G rated, don't think their called Endurance in that size.
Or for a very good G rated look at Sailuns for much less $$ than the GYs.

Because your providers are the Original Equipment tires their designated size and load capacity are the minimum requirements for your trailer.

The providers are polyester tires with nylon overlays. The provide 4400# of load capacity at 110 PSI which is way above the RVIA recommendation for 10% in load capacity reserves for your trailer's axles.

Some of the more popular brands on this forum build the same designated size and load capacity tire with an all steel construction. Sailun and Carlisle probably top the popularity list for those steel tires here.

The GY Endurance line-up provides a ST255/85R16 LRE with 4080# of load capacity at 80 PSI. Unfortunately they do not qualify as replacements for your OE tires. The GY G614 RST provides 3750# of load capacity at 110 PSI and, like the Endurance, they do not qualify as replacements for your OE tires.
