Carrying fresh water while traveling

How many of you travel with your fresh water tank filled at least some of the time? If so, where do you fill on the road if needed?

I always get full hookup but I fill mine to a third to half tank in case I have to use the restroom

While traveling I keep about 1/3 full or 10 to 15 gallons on board.
Many places to stop and get water. Most convenient are fuel stops or rest areas with potable water. I always use the inline water filter and my fresh water hose when filling up.

Ours is always full, 60 gallons, so about 500 lbs but well below our limits with 4,000 lb trailer and truck can tow 9,000. I feel like the trailer rides better with the extra weight, not much else heavy in it. We also keep 3 gallons drinking water in jugs. Despite hookups, any park could have issues so best be prepared.

Pretty well always run with a 1/3 tank of fresh water. Just in case as above.

Fill your tank all the way. Less sloshing and better ride. Part full makes no sense to me

We typically only go to one cg that is electric only, Knoebels Amusement Park where we fill at home. Rest of time 1/3 as others have stated. Fill using my hose and filter as I know where it's been.
As to why not fully fill for 2 reasons, 1 our tank is forward and it adds tongue wt and 2 we use so little water I'd rather not have 30 gallons setting around stagenet in the humid heat of summer here in the North East. YMMV

We were in Colorado 2 years ago, in Steamboat Springs at the KOA. About 7PM the water quit flowing.. No city water. The campground well pump had burned up, no water in any bath house or campsite. You'd have thought the world had ended from all the anger "city campers" with empty fresh water tanks.

We were "business as usual" just turn on the water pump and relax. Two days later the pump was installed and CG water restored. Of course by then, the campground had been nearly empty since an hour after the pump failed. Most of those "self contained trailers" had long departed for a CG with water or gone back home with a "ruined trip" because they had no water...

It would have saved the day, if they had at least some water onboard.

I've had a similar experience 3 times over the past 10 years or so, so I always carry about 20 gallons in the fresh water tank for use during the trip, as well as for any short-term issues at the campground.

We carry between 1/3 and 1/2 tank for the reasons stated above.

As stated, 1/3 tank to save the day. For some reason more than that blows out the overflow.

Always keep the water tank full. You never know what the water is like and some campgrounds. I know mine is good.

Sounds like this is the most popular choice and I'm going with 1/3 full tank. We always take enough bottle water for a week and load that in the truck.

We generally about a 1/3 or better, enough to run for at least a day without hooking up. If (LOL) you ever have to setup in the rain, it allows you to wait it out and not upset the DW.

90% of the time we travel with our water full. Sometimes it is just easier than having to stop on the way in to fill. We do not stay at full-hook up CG's very often. Usually Electricity only. We also travel with the Fridge on.

We pack along 10 +/- gal's for roadside flushes, and emergencies. We mostly "full hook" so just enough for roadside emergencies. dogs and flushes. Once on site dogs drink defrosted bottled water from home, used as frozen jugs in transit to help fridge keep it's cool on the road. At 8.5 # per gallon, why haul it if you don't need it? Plus the " slosh" keeps the tank clean. Add Clorox for sterilization, then pump through the system and dump when your there. Better yet. first time out use low point drain. you won't believe the crud from the factory install process!

Good Luck,

8.5 lbs per gallon is trivial in my 12000lb rv besides the cummins runs better when the water tank is full!
