Fuzion 417 Under Chassis Cargo Storage

Hey all,

I am looking at purchasing this: https://www.amazon.com/MORryde-CTG60...2Bstorage&th=1

Then manufacturing my own under the chassis drawer for this to sit into. Mainly it's for storage of our folding chairs. We have 5 chairs we haul around. They are the zero gravity style chairs. They fold up fairly flat. Right now we store them in the garage, they always seem to move around. I have two dings in the wall paper on the walls from them.

They track dirt in as well. I just need a better solution. Any tips on under the chassis mounting would be appreciated. Maybe someone has looked into this and done this already? I would keep the system near the tires most likely in front of one of the jacks. I'll also keep it so it doesn't hang below the jacks so I shouldn't have any clearance issues.

Right now when we get to the camp site, we have to haul them ALL out. It would be nice to store them so they are out of the way and have access to them as we need them.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks all,

(Mods if you could move this to the Toyhauler section that would be greatly appreciated. Not sure why I posted it here. Sorry and Thanks)

The picture I’m posting of my 414 illustrates why you are undertaking a considerable project. I post it only because I want to show you it can be done but there is a lot of undercarriage stuff under the “carriage” if your 417 is similar. I had the Lippert undercarriage storage box installed behind the rear axle. You can see it under the gas tank which was the only place it could fit from side to side. The mobile RV tech fabricated a special drop mount to clear the brackets which hold that tank in place. Whatever you build, keeping it close to the axles is best in order to reduce ground clearance as little as possible.

Where yours is mounted is about where I am planning on putting it. It will take some time and planning, but in the end I think it will be worth it’s weight in gold.

I’ll post my steps and pics as I progress. This might however be a project for the winter months.

More to come.

P.S. I looked at the Lippert storage box, do you like it? Pictures didn’t seem to do it justice though. Wish I could have seen one in person. What are you storing in it? Curious your thoughts on it if you don’t mind sharing.

Have you thought of using a BAL Hide-a-Spare bracket. It would take the weight of the chairs and easy to instal. Would also give access to the underside of trailer if needed.

I have not. I'll have to look into that. Is that a fully enclosed system? The goal at the end of this would be to keep road grime and etc out.

No not enclosed. Put chairs in those big contractor garbage bags for protection from road grime.

That's a thought. I was looking at this system but I don't see/understand how the chairs would stay on the rails. Assuming I would need to secure them somehow.

I am not sure how comfortable I would be using this type of a system. It's a good thought though. I appreciate the feedback.

It's too bad Keystone doesn't do some more under the belly mounting for customers.

I put one on our TT. Worked out as an easy installation and takes that bouncy spare off the hose holder. Just a tip here. Use nuts/bolts instead of the recommended self drillers and instal bolts from the inside of the frame. That way there's no ends of bolts for wiring, etc. to get chaffed on. Also I used nylock nuts. Keep us posted on your decision/progress. I cant say I NEED it, but I don't think you can ever have too much storage.

I do like the Lippert boxes(there is one on each side) but it wouldn’t work for your application. I’ll see if I can get a few close ups and post them. It might give you some ideas for mounting yours. I’m storing things which can get dirty and wet as these boxes don’t seal. They allow rain in and have drain holes in the bottom. Currently, I have my leveling blocks, tire chocks, x-chocks, and extra jack pads stored in them and still have room. Items for the curb side stay in the curb side box and items for the street side stay in the street side box.

Here are the pictures if the installed Lippert box(es) I promised. As you can see, they are not directly mounted to the frame but about an inch below to completely clear the gas tank mounting brackets and the rear steps.
