Slide out Sleeve?

Has anyone seen the new awning sleeves Lippert is selling. I was wondering if anyone has one or knows how they work. Are they better than a slide topper? Lippert claims they weigh about 10 pounds less then the slide topper.

I am looking to put slider toppers on mine wthin the next month. I am wondering how the sleeves will work with leaves and small twigs.

slide out sleeve

Do you understand how they mount or work? I was wondering the same question: when the slide goes in what happens to the trash that collects on it?

You can visit the Lippert website or Google Lippert Sleeve slideouts. It seems that they are held in place by velcro straps. The ad says that water, leaves, twigs and debris won't accumulate but, looking at the photos, I don't see how this sleeve prevents leaves and other debris from sitting on the top. Actually, it seems that they would be just as prone to being pulled into the unit along with the slide -- since this "sleeve" now forms the new slide roof. It looks like you would still need to brush or sweep any debris away before retracting the slide.

I saw these in the 2012 accessory catalog and was thinking about adding them to our new 5er. It looks as though they replace the outer gasket on the slide.

On the Lippert website, it looks like there are actually 2 different products, a Slide Sleeve which essentially fits like a "second skin" and is sealed to the RV around the outer edge of the opening and according to the Lippert data, helps to prevent water leakage into the RV.

Then there is the Lippert Slide Topper, which fits over the slide, apparently attaches to the side of the RV and the outer top lip of the slide. It appears to function much as a conventional slide topper, but I am not sure how it can keep leaves, snow, ice off the top of the slide during opening or closing the slide like a conventional topper does. I suppose I need to do a lot more research before thinking about this "new product"

If you're interested, don't get the SLEEVE and the SLIDE TOPPER mixed up, or you'll really get confused at the dealer...

If it works the way I "think" it does, it should shed any debris as you retract the slide, kind of like turning a sock inside out. I'd certainly have to see one before I bought it. What I can't figure out is what happens to your rubber gaskets.

According to the accessory catalog, the "Slide-out Boot" retails for $450-$550 plus $65-$77 for the installation kit. The "Quarter Topper" retails for $205-$323 plus $43-$55 for the installation kit. Prices vary by length.

From the pics on the Lippert website and literature, it looks to me that the Topper is just a Sleeve without the side sections. It may be different, but I don't see it.

My big question with both is what happens to them when you retract the slide? Does it fold up or bunch up in some way so that it does not hang out anywhere? I am not sure that they are removed for travel. The literature is a little vague on things like that.

I'd really like to see them close up. We need to add some kind of toppers to our rig, and if these work as well as or better than the traditional awning roller type toppers, then I am interested.

You all are asking the same questions as me... I still have two smaller slides I would like to cover and I am wondering if the NEW sleeve is better or doesn't work as well. I do like the idea of not having something hanging out further to get hooked on tree limbs.

Hmm it's an old thread so I'm guessing no one has tried them out? Or heard any more about them
