Yes, you can tighten the spring. To do so, you'll need to pin the spring at the rear attachment, then remove the rear mount, so you can pull the roller away from the slide sidewall. When I did mine, I extended the slide completely (to wind the spring as tightly as it would), then pinned the spring, removed the roller, pulled the slide in about one foot, rolled the cover onto the roller one full turn, then reattached the roller to the mount and removed the pin. BE SURE TO HOLD THE ROLLER TUBE WHEN YOU UNPIN THE ROLLER !!!!!
