New member - 2018 Alpine

Hi, my wife and I are buying a 2018 Alpine 3501RL this week but am disappointed in the fact that this unit does not have the 3 year limited warranty that Keystone is advertising and including on new 2018s built in Sept 2017 or earlier. The unit we are considering was built in August 2017 and does not qualify. It seems to me a 2018 is a 2018 unless, for whatever reason, those built before September 2017 are inferior and not worthy of the 3 year warranty. If that is the case perhaps I should not purchase this 5th wheel.

Can anyone help me out with this dilemma?

Welcome to the forum

Your 2018 Alpine isn’t “inferior” to the other 2018’s. Manufacturers make changes midstream all the time and have to use a cut off date. We had a customer order a unit from the factory (not Keystone), she assumes that she would get the bbq quick connect. Turns out the factory stopped putting them on and the LAST ONE was the one in front of hers. She was that close, does it make her unit inferior? No it just didn’t have what the one before it did.

Us techs sometimes have a real hard time keeping up with the changes as there isn’t any “bulletin” issued to dealers. I have done 2 units, same floor plan built 6 months apart and be outfitted differently. It’s normal in the RV industry, is it right? I’m not going to get into that discussion.

Warranty

Thanks for your reply. I just think it is a poor business decision if you are going to give a more generous warranty it should cover all 2018s not just those produced after a certain date. They should have covered all 2018s or made it start with the 2019 models Weird.

So can't you order a unit from the factory to get the warranty?

It strikes me that you may be thinking you're talking to the Keystone company - you're not. We are Keystone owners and have zip to do with what kind of warranty Keystone offers on their units. But, as flybouy queried, if the 3 year warranty is that important; you can order one or find a newer one. And yes, all RV manufacturers do things that make normal folks shake their head - you just gotta "roll with the flow".
