Question 70 amp service

I was told by a fellow RVer that some parks are going to 70 amp services. Apparently there are 2 right in our area. Didn't know they made RVs with 70 amp service. Am I mistaken?

We have stayed at two or three that were building new areas that would offer 100 amp service. Supposedly the future of high-dollar class A motorhomes. Other than that I don't know where it will end.

Doing some rough calculations 3-3-3-5 wire is required to carry 100 amps. Weighs in at .719/ft = 21.5# for a 30' cable. Try coiling that sucker up in the cold weather.

Most of those high dollar class a motorhomes have power mechanisms for their power cables no coiling necessary. I can only dream as I coil my power cable.

I think you misplaced a decimal in your calculations. Isn't the cable closer to 7 pounds per foot which would make a 30 ft cable weigh in at about 215 pounds? My 30 amp 30' cable weighs more than 21 pounds.

That's a lot of "cold weather fighting" to store. As stated by the previous poster, most "high dollar motorhomes" that are fitted with 70/100 amp service are equipped with cable management systems that electrically unwind/wind the cable. All the owner needs to do is put on a pair of Harbor Freight Mechanics Gloves ($3.99 with coupon), drag the cable to the CG pedestal as it unwinds and plug it in. When leaving, unplug it from the pedestal and press the button (or use your "In-Command/phone controller)....

What happened to that hatchet and a box of kitchen matches to build a campfire???? Oh, the "Lil Red LP Campfire" replaced it years ago.....

I thought the little Cougar we bought was a high dollar rig. At least it seemed like it at the time (relative I guess).
I used to skip Math class and spend the afternoon in the poolhall trying to make money for cigarettes (had to give up smoking). So not good with figures.

One of my first upgrades was a cord reel. No joy coiling a 50 amp power cord by hand.

On the plus side, you could always get some welding done while you're waiting for the steaks to grill.

50A service is actually 100A, 2 legs with 50A each.
I have 80A service on my Outback. I added a 30A and a 20A to run space heaters in the winter without tripping the 15A outlet breakers

Thought I read a couple years ago that those 100 amp rigs just had two 50 amp cords. Anything much more would have to be hardwired to keep from burning up the connection.

Is this just different terminology for the same thing 100 amp / 50 amp?
50 amp service is actually two 50 amp 120 volt legs for a total of 100 amps ......
30 amp would not be 60 though since 30 amp only uses one 120 volt leg

What size space heaters are you running to require such high amperage?

I have to ask what the heck would you do with 100 amp service? That's what my house has! And we never pull near that, even with the dryer, washer, pump, and sunroom electric heat all on at the same time. I did see a big rig with a LARGE TV screen on the outside wall. We were able to see some of the NCAA tournament from our site (NO TV in our trailer).

I have seen one all electric motorhome. No propane tanks at all.

I never asked how much power he needed.
