Plate for sway control.

We purchased an Eaz-lift 1000 pound rated distribution system that came with a sway control plate that I am supposed to attach to the tongue via six screws with lock washers. I'll have to drill the holes that the screws will fasten into. The directions seem straight forward. Before I attempt that I'd like to hear from anyone with experience about what to look out for... the beam I'd be fastening to is closed... not an L beam or C beam... if there is better terminology, please advise... all the wiring seems to be on the left side of the tongue while the plate would be mounted to the right side.

Again, any info is appreciated.

Addendum: I am aware of the weakness of this system when it comes to backing. I will be using sway control if im going to be going any distance in excess of 50 mph and disconnect it before any backing maneuvers.

I think you will be OK drilling into the frame for the mount. You mention that you are aware of the weakness of that type of hitch as far as backing but I personally have other concerns as well. You're going to drill 6 holes in the frame to mount the plate. Will the frame collapse from that? I doubt it. Does it make the frame weaker in some unknown circumstance? IMO it does. The little tension bar used for sway, in my experience, was virtually useless. The trailer I used that type of sway on had a GVW of 6k if I recall. I had 2 of those things (one on each side) on it and couldn't tell they did anything. On the flat plains of W TX and SE NM along with interstates with passing semis, the trailer seemed uncontrolled all the time no matter what I did. Did away with that, got a 4 point equalizer and the problem disappeared. Now, with a 10k trailer it's the same. Just giving you a heads up that on a 7k trailer as you have that will probably be marginal at best; certainly not the best sway control I've ever experienced. JMO/YMMV

We do it all the time. 24” from center of coupler to sway ball seems to be standard. Put the ball at the rear of the plate. Put it centered between top and bottom of frame.

That is what the directions indicate.

Many thanks to all for the heads-up.
