LP Propane Prices

Where, generally, are the best LP prices found? AKA.....are campground prices at all competitive? We are still using what remains of the full tanks when we purchased 3/18. We only managed 5 trips last season. Our trip last weekend offered LP at $3.79 per gallon. Thought about it.......but did not follow through. Thanks, Eric

You should never pay by the gallon. And holy **** that ends up being expensive. Pay by the pound or by the tank. Generally 20 pounders are $17-19 here to exchange. Filling is a little less.

I just paid around $2.50 per gallon at Country Max. Pays to shop around.

Topped off my 30lb tank, that was very close to empty for under $14.00. Completely empty tank costs me around 17.00.

Howdy Eric. We will, when there is time, refill at our local Co-op store. Downside is I have to carry in the tanks but is usually about .50 a gallon cheaper.

We also use a campground that is on the way to almost anywhere we go because of how the highways are laid out here in the mountains and the passes. The big advantage to the campground is they have SPACE to pull our trailer and rig in and I can pull up right beside the LP fill station. Pay more but is extremely convenient.

^^^ I second the co-op/seed and feed store for fill-ups. Our local S&F is the preferred option to get LP.

West coast Propane is almost always sold by the gallon, last I checked about $2.20 to 2.70 a gallon depending on area.

Google is your friend. Gallon is the standard weight term in United States to sell propane. 1 US liquid Gallon is equal to 3.79 litre and 1 litre is equal to 2.2 pound. According to today's rage average rate of propane today was $ 2.36 / Gallon.
http://www.propane-prices.com/propan...-by-state.html
Eric, average in Maryland is $3.30/gal.

I've always taken my tanks off and in to whoever fills them. A 30lb. tank costs 24.08 to refill at Ace Hardware in the panhandle of FL, 25 even at the local propane place. In W TX the tank costs 22 to fill. Oddly, now that our Walmart has closed, it costs 20 to exchange the little 20lb.? tank that we use on our bbq pit and Blackstone. I've not asked for gal. prices since I refill when they are empty. I would guestimate that we pay north of $3 gal. on all of them figuring they always shut the pump down at 7 gal. on the 30 gal.

Around lower Michigan and in the places we've traveled this trip, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada (so far) In places where I've seen a Tractor Supply store, the advertised price of propane runs anywhere from $2.49 to 2.89 per gallon. At those prices, a completely empty 7.5 gallon (30 pound) tank would run $18.68-21.68. All of the Tractor Supply stores that sell propane (I've found a few that don't) sell it by the gallon. If you go in with a partially full tank, it's sold by the "tenth" so you actually buy it the same as diesel or gas.

This isn't an endorsement for Tractor Supply as I'm sure many other stores sell propane. I've found, over the years, that TS is a reliable place to get my tanks filled, so if I'm looking for propane and see a TS sign, there's always enough room to maneuver the rig in their parking lot and usually a "hassle free" and economical propane fill. As a reminder, they do "religiously" check the tank certification dates, so if you're running with an outdated propane tank, they won't fill it for you.....

13 bucks on my last 30# fill. Love the local KOA for having the best price in the area.

I use Country Max as well the majority of the time. Refill for a 20 lb. tank was in the $7-10 range. I did hear that they recently raised their prices, but I have not had to fill since I heard that.

I have refilled at my local Tractor Supply Store - believe they were $2.50 a gallon. Seemed pretty fair and reasonable.

Point of reference:

Tank trade in locations like Blue Rhino only fill a 20#er to about 15#. No bargain there, UNLESS your tank "ages out" and can not be legally refilled.

Then take it to Wal-Mart, and trade it in. Get the newest date you can find for a replacement. When empty you can refill these tanks at any location that sell LPG. This is cheaper than buying a brand new tank.

Our local Agway runs coupon specials for 20# tanks. Check your weekly fliers. Last coupon was a $9.00 fill.

Good Luck,

Our Country Max has the same great deal on 20lb tank fills, but that sale price doesn't apply to any other size, they charge by gallons at their normal rate.

I normally take them to my local tractor supply. Its by the gallon but if my tank is half full im not paying for a whole tank price just what i used.

Ive found this to be pretty good for me.

Actually you'll always pay more buy the tank! If by chance you've still have a half a tank, or any amount, left you'll pay the same as if it were empty. Tank exchange, 20 lbers only, is always the most expensive option unless you're needing a tank upgrade.
Buy it by the pound or gallon & be sure to attendant opens the bleeder til liquid escapes, otherwise you're paying for vapor. The vapors coming from the bleeder will look like smoke, the liquid will be whiter & more solid looking.

In late 2013, we were in Missouri into December, and that year there was a propane shortage and propane prices were approaching $5 a gallon and with temperatures in the teens, we were going through a 7 gallon tank in two days. So, even though we can get propane at an RV dealer near where we winter in Arizona for $2.19 a gallon, the $3.49 a gallon we paid a couple days ago still isn't all that bad, compared to prices we've paid in the past. Sometimes, it just isn't worth having to travel a long distance to save a few dollars.
