Re: Copper Breaks State Park, Texas

Been up and down 287 a bunch but I don't think we ever stopped there. Been wondering myself...it's in about the right spot for a stopping place for us headed west.

Sorry for the delay

Very nice place, quiet and off the beaten path.. We plan on going back...

Well can't load photos because I'm blocked from deleting old photos...

I'm thinking about going to Palo Duro in early April. I was looking for other parks in the area and this one came up. Is it worth stopping at for a couple of days?

Not super familiar with the state parks in the Amarillo/Lubbock but I can tell you that Palo Duro Canyon is beautiful. Make sure your there to take in the play "Texas" in the outdoor canyon. Awesome!

Thanks for the info.

I just reread my post and it's a little unclear. I meant to say, is Copper Breaks SP worth the stop?

I can highly recommend the park, the onsite museum is really nice and the night sky (International Dark Sky) is remarkable... We were there for the Super Moon in November and plan to return soon for a dark of the moon trip..

Along with this park I can recommend Caprock Canyons SP as well.. Both are unique and well worth the visit..

We are booked for 3 nights, at Palo Duro, in May, on our way to Junction Creek north of Durango.

Thought about copper Breaks SP, but the canyon is a little further along in the direction we need to go, which is still a 9+ hour drive from the canyon.

We have been to the canyon a few times, never camped though... the Texas show is very good.

I'll stop by. I'll try to pick a site away. My kids are young, so they can be loud during the day.

How's the wind on the way to Copper Breaks? I started looking at forecasts near Palo Duro and the wind looks horrible.

Honestly I haven't even thought about it, this is Texas and the forecast will change several times before we leave home.

I hope it isn't too bad that week, we're going for the night sky and if it is going to be overcast, we will just reschedule... flexibility in scheduling is one of the few perks of being older.
