New Minnesota Check-In...
Hi All!
Just doing the "New Member Check-In" thing! Came to the forum for information, ideas and questions.... looks like a good place for all!
A little about us.... We live in west-central Minnesota (about an hours drive away from Fargo, ND - everyone seems to know where that is!?). Family of 4 that have been camping... more like "glamping" for the past 5 years. Pretty cookie cutter / white picket fence type life stuff. By day I'm a "Product Application Designer" (basically I design mechanical linkage mountings for our products in the process industry) and by night a father to our Son (13) and daughter (10), along with being a Fireman (Ladder Company Engineer/Driver) for our local volunteer paid on call fire department. The wife works at the local hospital and college teaching the career she enjoys.
What we have.....
The Camper: Is a 2016 Cougar X-Lite 28DBI model, that we purchased new. It has the center kitchen island, front bedroom and rear bunks layout. It's been a pretty good unit overall, with just a couple headaches so far.
The Tow Vehicle/Truck: Is a "recently new to us" 2015 RAM 3500 Crew Cab, Short Box (6.5'), 6.7 Cummins 4X4 Laramie w/ Factory Tow Prep Pkg (Factory under-bed puck system). It's basically stock, other then the tonneau cover, line-x bed liner, an LED light bar in the front bumper and BFG AT KO2 tires. That's the beautiful "Blue Streak Pearl" & Chrome color!
First item on the agenda is picking out the right hitch!

Good afternoon and to the forum from a fellow Minnesotan!
Lots of great folks here and plenty of great info and discussion.
Have you been out yet this year? I'm bringing my camper home from storage on Saturday, and barring any unforeseen circumstances our first mission (this year) is slated for next weekend.

Thanks & Good to hear!
No haven't been out yet this year... hoping to find a hitch and bring it home from storage the first weekend in April.
The last round of snow is about gone now and the rain in the last day hasn't helped the parking spot dry out to the point I'd like. Along with not having a hitch in the 'new to us' truck. Normally mothers day weekend is our first "adventure".

Welcome - I find this forum to be a wonderful place to find information!
We are from MN, too - near beautiful Lake Superior! We are going to be brave - maybe stupid - but we are gonna haul the camper up to the Iron Range this weekend - supposed to be in the high 50's low 60's.
Sorry, can't help with your hitch.

Thanks for the welcome!
Enjoy the Iron Range.... what are evening temps supposed to be there, mid to upper 30’s?
We hope to make it to Duluth area and up the north shore with the kids this summer some time!! As it’s been a few years..... okay maybe many, since we honeymooned there in 2002 maybe.

Upper 30’s Friday and Saturday night.! Supposed to be sunny and 61 Friday cloudy and 67 Saturday! We hope. Ha ha
We’ve not camped up the north shore yet-except in a tent near split rock about 30 years ago! Someday we’ll venture up there with the camper.
Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum, We picked up a new 3500 DW truck this spring. Had to put in the under bed mount and picked up a new B&W hitch. There are a number of hitches out there but we decided to get what we believe to get the best build rugged unit. They make a Puck style for your truck also. Reese also has one that looks good.
You may want to look into a slider hitch to have plenty of turn radius when parking into tough campsites with your short bed.
I picked up the 20,000# unit. You may want it also as your future may see a larger camper and you will be ready.
