I was reading a blog the other day from "those" that haven't produced anything in their lives saying the "old ones", that have amassed any size of savings needed to "die". It was "their" time and what we had should be passed (given) to them. I am going to work really hard to follow this recommendation and "pass" along what they deserve!! Good post!

We are quite a way from retirement. We have no kids though. I’ve been thinking about “who” to bring into the fold so to speak.

Starting to take more interest in our parents started me thinking who will take care of us as we age? Strange to think about for sure.

I think my sisters won’t give a hoot, just looking to grab our stuff. Oh well, need something else to think about.

Congratulations Hank! Live every single day to the fullest and enjoy the leisure time that I'm sure you've worked so hard to achieve! Nice.

It's a beautiful thing to own your time. You are now in total control of your time and travels. Go discover how amazing our great country is. Get off the interstates and travel the secondary roads. Less stress and you never know what interesting little places you will find. Enjoy.

Somebody quipped "Hurry up retirement" on another thread.
My reply was:
Iv'e been retired just over six years. It didn't take me long to figure out that I wanted to go back to work to get some rest.
There is always something you can get into when you "have the time". Whether it is your own stuff or helping others. Problem is when you are retired, you have the time.

I agree with the recommendation of enjoying your retirement. I retired in 1998 and tomorrow I start year 81 in a long and interesting life. Like Paul Anka says in his song My Way "mistakes I've made a few but too few to mention".
Don't sweat the small stuff there is enough big stuff to keep you occupied
Like the new Toby Keith song goes "don't let the old man out".

I though "My Way" was a Frank Sinatra song.

I am only 31. I told my parents (who are pretty well off) spend it all and have an awesome life. I am not expecting a cent when they pass. I would rather enjoy the rest of their lives richly together with them and have the memories not their money later on.

That being said, if they want to put my daughter through college....wouldn't be the end of the world haha

SKIs weighing in here too.
We are Spending the Kids Inheritance as fast as we can.
But seriously, we worked the best years of our lives to save for this time. Now we're making the most of it. 40-odd years of dreaming up things to do. Now we're doing them.

I love the SKI term and will have to use it with my parents! I’ve been telling them for years to get out and enjoy what they have earned, because THEY earned it, not me. And, it’s their own fault since they raised me to be independent.

"SKI" in the summer and "SKI" in the winter
Love the acronym.

I retired 6 years ago, my beautiful bride 2 years ago. I've dropped 30 pounds and feel better and stronger than I have for the 40 years I was working. I'm that busy now! She's just now getting used to retirement so her changes aren't quite as dramatic. Yet!

I highly recommend retirement. Enjoy yours.
