A/C just shuts off and blows hot air after an hour or so

I have a 2019 Keystone Cougar 1/2 ton 30RLS.. I am currently in Graeagle Calif, the temps are about mid 70"s so I set my a/c for auto at 73 degrees..
So yesterday after returning late in the day my rig was 80 degrees and not blowing cold air.. I had to put it on fan for a few minutes and then I was able to cool the trailer down. Today Friday 4/19/2019 it did it again... I was never given the manual for the a/c just wondering if anyone else has or had a similar issue

Thanks

It almost sounds like the freeze sensor has fallen out of the fins. You can remove the return filter and that should allow you to inspect.

It will be plugged into the control box and the tip ( covered in rubber) SHOULD be wedged in the cooling fins. If it’s hanging loose, just put it about 1/2 way up and off to one side.

If that’s not the problem then report back for further testing.

I believe it’s the wire with the blue plug.

Another thing to think about is the thermostat. Wouldn't think one would fail on a new trailer but mine was acting like that; AC would work fine for quite a while (most of the day) then I would notice it heating up and the AC wasn't kicking on. Went to the thermostat and just kept pulling the temp down and it wouldn't kick in. Cycled through and turned the thermostat off, let it sit about 10 seconds, cycled it back to auto cool and the AC kicked on....then we would go thru the process again. A new thermostat fixed it.

Yep it's the blue plug. I just replaced my circuit board today. I wonder about the AC freezing up since he's in California where the humidity is fairly low. Wouldn't that be unusual for it to freeze up in those conditions.?

Inadequate air flow across the fins will cause ice to build up, reduced flow, build up and eventual shut down, running air past the fins with cooling off will eventually thaw the system and you are good for a while again

It's the blue plug and this is what the other end looks like. It's located in the fins, inside the ceiling "return air box".

Sorry, I doubt it would be your issue then. I do not have the InCommand system.

The temperature SENSOR (at least mine) is inside a little plastic bulls-eye guard hanging on the wall next to nothing else. If you unscrew the plastic guard, you'll see a short cable end tipped by a tiny red thermistor the size of a pushpin head -- that's it.

The thermostat CONTROL, where you select the desired temp, is inside your inCommand unit.

Sounds like your A/C is freezing up and the freeze sensor is not working or not inserted properly.
It should run normal on auto. However when it switches to low fan it will freeze up. Do not run it on low fan. I have the same problem. I run mine on high fan all the time I am camping. A bit noisy but it works. Auto works great when I am home and set to 81 degrees. These units have one big problem. They are very sensitive to high humidity and freeze up fast when on low fan. This also happens on auto when the fan switches to low fan. The low temp sensor is Supposed to fix this but does not work all the time.

Make sure the ceiling swivel vent closest to the thermostat sensor is not pointed directly at the thermostat sensor. If it is, then the cold air blowing towards the thermostat sensor will be interpreted as the ambient temperature, shutting off the system (the system incorrectly "thinks" the whole trailer is at that temperature). Once the AC turns off, the fan will just blow warm air until the five minute AC restart delay elapses and then the whole process repeats.

We had the same issue with our Keystone Bullet and fixed it by simply turning the ceiling swivel vent so that it doesn't blow directly on the AC sensor.

Haha this is a pro-tip! We have 2 bunks that are near the thermostat. Ours was acting up one time and I couldn't figure out why until I determined the bunk users are directed vents towards them...lol. This also meant right at the thermostat which I believe also houses the sensor. Once I fixed that, no problems since!

I had the opposite issue on our first trip out this year, the heat would run once then when the T-stat called for it again it would try but not come on. My fix was to do a reset of the InCommand system, it is located in the BCM. On my fiver the BCM is in the front compartment. Once I did that the heat now functions normally.

From what I have seen on this board and others it seems some folks are having an InCommand issue after the first winter where the BCM has been without power for an extended time. Not sure if this is your issue but maybe worth a shot!
